Dear Gloria !!~

Welcome here, having anxiety out of control is something a lot of us have to face, so we do understand exactly.

I use a smartphone app called 'Smiling Mind'. It works on IOS or Android and is free, with no pay-for on the advanced modes either. I found it hard to start with, it does take practice but is pretty effective. I use it for breaking out of a cycle of anxious thoughts, and also simply as a calming thing.

I was hopeless at mindfulness, this gives me enough prompting and direction to keep me concentrating.

I'll also mention this thread where a lot of people have said what help them too

Hello Gloria,

Welcome to the Beyond Blue Forums, where you will meet some wonderful people who are willing to give you their insight into there own mental health problems and try to guide you on the right path to your wellness.

Im really sorry your struggling so much with anxiety.

There are a few apps that people like here, I use " insight timer". a couple of others is ..calm..headspace.. smiling mind.... mindful...These are a few to get you started..

I do a guided meditation from insight timer, then I like to find an instrumental thennput my earphone in, turn it up a little, then pick and follow one instrument only right through the song..I usually fall asleep through the instrumental..

.Through the day if your having trouble with your anxiety you can also try your best to distract your thoughts away from anxiety by finding and doing something that you like and you need to concerntrate on, some ideas, internet mind challenging games.. jig saws, tv, music, I find instrumentals are best, pick a instrument and follow that instrument right through the song with earphones in..there just a few ideas.

We also have a great thread here called Sleep, there are some really good ideas that you could also try..

Please let us know how you went with the apps.

Warm and caring thoughts,

Grandy..

Hi Gloria,

When I was looking for apps to help me, I did a search for adult colouring apps and downloaded a couple and tried them out. They work wonders in helping me with my anxiety 🙂

Hi Gloria !!

Welcome to the forums and thanks for being here!

Hmmm apps.. Good question!

I feel like I've tried so many - Headspace, Smiling Mind and Calm are by far the most popular. A lot of these are guided meditations and mindfulness exercises so perfect if you are a beginner.

The ones that I have now -

- Oak. They have both unguided, guided and breathing exercises. The sounds are my favourite in this one.

- Pause. Basically you press a button and move it around the screen for the 'bubble' to get bigger. You can't move too fast though so it encourages me to really focus and slow down so I can make the 'bubble' big.

- Bloom. This is a colouring app, and even though there's in-app purchases there's so much you can do for free.

- Be Okay. This one is designed for panic attacks so it's really simple. Breathe in, hold, and exhale. As well as the option to upload calming pictures and call for help if you need to.

Hope this helps!
