Feeling anxious over possibilities

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum, so bear with me!

I’ve recently been extremely anxious about heading to work, and worrying over possibilities or situations that have not/or may not even occur at work.
I’ve never been an anxious person, but recent events at work where I have been blamed or been on the receiving end of someone else’s stresses have made me extremely reluctant and anxious to head to work.
I can’t even “switch off” from thinking about work, and dread returning each morning in case something has occurred overnight and I am met with an angry boss in the morning. Most of the time, nothing happens but it doesn’t help my worrying, or being overly analytical of any possibility of disaster.

Any tips on how to handle this?

Hello Bambi, and a warm welcome.

I am really sorry for the way you are thinking, and understand how you are feeling must be an awful experience.

Can I suggest, as I'm not a qualified doctor, that if these thoughts have overtaken your mind that you type in 'intrusive thoughts' in the search bar or your browser and read the many comments made by people, including myself, and see whether or not you can correlate with these thoughts.

I'd like to hear back from you if possible so this discussion can continue and please don't be afraid, those of us on this site have struggled with our own type of depression, fortunately, some are able to explain how they have been able to overcome this illness, while still struggle, but are able to try and help other people.

Thanks for the reply, and the warm welcome.
I was honestly so scared to get on here and write down what was causing my anxiety - but it helped me breathe a little better. I think verbalising it instead of bottling it all up helped remove that pressure.

I took your advice, and went through the forum a little bit for some tips, and I found taking deep breaths to calm myself worked last night. I sat somewhere quiet and took 10, long deep breaths and I felt calmer afterwards. I’m going to keep reading and looking to see what works.

I’m a little hesitant to speak to a professional right now. Work provides a counselling service, so I might take advantage of that.

Hi Bamb is,

Sorry for the way you have been feeling.....

If your anxiety is causing you distress then I’d strongly advise you to seek help from a professional.... they can give you so many strategies for dealing with your anxiety..... I seeked help from professionals I don’t know we’re I would be with out there help.....

If you see your gp you could do a mental health plan this will give you 10 free sessions with a phycologist.

you aren’t alone, many people have this condition..
