Hi,welcome
In my experience, there are families that have very little turmoil and there are those that break off contact for whatever reason. Then there's some that always have violence, silence, manipulation even blackmail.
Reasons can vary and each is unique.
When a adult child breaks away, especially if it has happened a few times that is a clear indication of how he is no longer tolerant of the family's chemistry. It a sign of desperation. The only other sign I can think of is using it for leverage to achieve a goal.
Either way your family needs help.
However giving him space can also be beneficial. So this situation is best handled by a professional. Relationships Australia can be contacted.
If you'd like to provide more detail, that would be helpful
All the best.

Hello Kimczar, can I ask you, and please only answer if you want to, as this is the third time this has happened, is it relating to the same problem.
I'm sorry this has happened.
Geoff.

Thank you for finding the strength to post in our forums. We are a very supportive and welcoming community.
we hear that you are feeling hurt, distress, and confusion because your adult son has disowned his family, for the 3rd time. It may help to try and remember that your adult son is now an adult, who is now responsible for his own life. We cannot know what he is thinking or feeling, but we do know that you feel distressed. So, we would encourage you to call beyondblue Support Service 1300 22 4636. The mental health professionals can help you start working through your distress, and the the service is available 24 hours per day.
Warm regards,
Sophie M.
