Fainting, exhaustion - could this be a result of my anxiety?

I have previously suffered from anxiety and panic attacks, due to a medical condition and mostly leading up to doctors appointments anticipating a diagnosis.

Recently and seemingly out of no where I have been having faint episodes (I don't actually lost consciousness) which include:

  • Numb lower legs and arms
  • blue lips
  • uncomfortable/quick heart
  • shortness of breath
  • intense dizzyness/light headedness
  • physical exhaustion
  • inability to concentrate

I have been to a GP and the hospital and my tests so far seem normal ( a few more results pending). The feeling during these episodes is horrible, I feel like my body cannot live.

Could this be related to anxiety? Has anyone had a similar experience? I had eaten, drank plenty of water before my episodes (4 now)

I have been constantly dizzy and exhausted, in varying degrees of severity since this began. I cannot exercise which I was doing 5 days a week prior.

Hi lostlostlost,

Welcome to the beyondblue forums. As far as your list of symptoms is concerned I would say most of them could be the result of anxiety and also depression which if your anxiety is out of control it can be easy to slip in to. It sounds like your doctor is doing everything they can to eliminate other physical causes.

I have been told at various times in my life that I have IBS and PMR both of which have unidentified causes. I am inclined to think that they are somehow connected to my anxiety.

Also I am wondering if you might have worn yourself out with the 5 day a week exercise routine.

I would be interested to know what your doctor tells you.

Thanks,

Pixie.

Hi Lostlostlost,

Welcome to Beyond Blue and the community here. Thanks for sharing your post. If you were to look up any threads here on ANXIETY you would find so many stories that are similar to your own!

It seems that anxiety can do many things to our bodies. So if such emotions can have such a negative effect, then we must also have the power to control those thoughts and actions and become well again!

I would like to suggest that you lookup ways to control anxiety on Google. Don't read any of the information about how anxiety can react in your body, just how to beat it.

Look up the information on anxiety here on the Beyond Blue site as well. I find the more I research a condition as far as curing it, the better I am able to cope and move on.

We need to learn to change the channel in our brain so to speak. Instead of the anxiety taking hold, you need to think positively and powerfully that you will be okay.

Hopefully your Dr will be able to help you and maybe refer you to chat with a counsellor or a psychologist to help you understand anxiety better and how to deal with it.

Regarding your exercise, take a walk around the block. Slowly build up your activity again. Exercise is great for all of us. Try to get into some other things that interest you as well so your brain has something to keep it occupied.

Let us know how you get on. Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools.

Hi Lostlostlost,

It is Mrs. Dools again. I have just noticed another post on ANXIETY where someone has given a phone number to ring. Look up mel23 under Anxiety and the post is called "Do other people have these symptoms?" Check out the following post which has the number for an Anxiety place that can help you.

Cheers again.
