Hi there
Has anyone had any success with the techniques Claire Weekes explains to use in her books for panic attacks/agoraphobia ?
Accept-float etc
she makes so much sense and was wanting to hear from anyone that has had any type of success no matter how small.
Ta 🙂

Dear Lori
I'm sorry, I have nothing useful to add here, but like you, I would like to hear of anyone's feedback on this.
As you say, any successes in this field (no matter how small) are extremely worthwhile to hear about.
Thanx for this post.
Neil

Hi Lori32,
Prior to reading your post, I actually hadn't heard about Dr Weekes. Like Neil I'm keen to find out what some of her self help techniques actually are. I've seen that she published a book during her lifetime, have you actually read this? Would you recommend it to others?
Thanks for shedding light on this.

Yes, Dr Claire Weekes is awesome.
Just ordered her book "Complete self help for your nerves" today.
I've read her books in the past and decided it was time to own my own copy.

Yes, Lori.
I trained in Psychiatry in the UK and chose psychotherapy as my favoured sub-speciality which I practised in a suburb of Sydney for 30 years.
Many people with panic, anxiety and phobias and fears had tried what they considered was everything already and were unable or unwilling to do any sort of work on themselves or take any medication besides taking up the approach of Dr Weekes .
I scoured the second hand book stores for copies of any and all of her books and used to loan them to patients with a recommendation that if they found the approach helpful, they might like to get copies for themselves. Needless to say, many copies went missing.
Those who put her techniques into practice and adopted her point of view of the condition were almost always able to make significant progress - some very rapidly and dramatically but most more slowly step-by-step.
One of the virtues of her approach for many was that hers was not "head-shrinking" and that they were fully in charge of the whole process without becoming dependent or feeling controlled or bullied.
Her wisdom and experience and her manner of explanation can be highly recommended as liberating and effective of lasting beneficial results. It is not for everybody.

Hello Pacdoc
Thankyou for your invaluable input about Dr Claire Weekes!
I had chronic anxiety in the early 1980's and Claire Weekes book ' took a few reads but she helped me understand that 'Calm and true Acceptance' of anxiety/depression is a great way to leave anxiety behind us
Dr Claire Weekes is the only psychiatrist I know in 34 years that has spoken publicly about her anxiety attacks
Thankyou Pacdoc so much for outlining the benefits that Dr Claire Weekes was writing to in the few books she published before she passed away.
Your expertise is highly valued here. I am not a health professional as you are. I do know that her book (Self Help for Your Nerves) was my bible in the 1980's when my GP's had no idea how to treat my anxiety
Thankyou so much for your helpful contribution Pacdoc
My Kind thoughts and Happy Christmas too!
Paul

Hi Scotty2013
Thanks for your post about Dr Claire Weekes and her book
She has about 6 best sellers available even though she passed away in the '90's
It took me a few reads when my anxiety was really bad but it was written so well and especially from a psychiatrist that suffered from anxiety/depression too
Scotty...Is that a Tawny frog mouth owl in your profile pic?.....Just a guess...
My Kind thoughts
Paul
