Hi dear friends
I’m Pete
I fear losing my job
it may not even be rational
i have so much anxiety from my thoughts that I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Any tips from anyone that I can use while at my office job to not feel so anxious.
thank you.

Hi Pete,
I'm really sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much anxiety. It can feel so overwhelming and debilitating. Do you have anyone (family, friend, GP, mental health professional) who you feel able to talk to about what is happening? In terms of alleviating your anxiety, there are a few potential options:
- Grounding techniques (can be helpful in bringing you back to the present and out of your racing mind, there is some info on Blue Knot https://www.blueknot.org.au/Survivors/Self-care/grounding about different grounding techniques which you may find useful to do at your desk)
- Plan an activity or something for when you get home from work that you will find relaxing that you can think about and focus on when things become overwhelming and your thoughts start to race
- When you are not at work, it may be helpful to write down some of the most common anxious thoughts that you are having so that you can challenge them and see them in a different perspective, this may help remove some of the power that your anxiety has over you
- If it is appropriate, you could have a stress ball or fidget toy or other distractions of some sort to have at your desk
- If possible, maybe scheduling a time in the day where you can head outside to go for a walk and get some fresh air to break up your day and get yourself away from your desk for a bit could help with your anxiety
I hope you are able to find something that helps you, it is good to make a list of options that you think you may find helpful so that you have a few different things to choose from.
Take care and please do not hesitate to talk more as and when you feel up to it. We are here to listen.

Hey Pete
That must be difficult having this experience. I think sunnyl20 has given some great advice. May I also add that belly breathing can be really helpful too. If you've not tried it before you can google it. It can be really calming and help to relieve the tension we can carry due to anxiety.
Is there any reason you think you might be at risk of losing your job? And did you want to discuss it at all? Plenty of non-judgemental listening ears here for you.
Take care, Katy
