I have been living with anxiety for as long as i can remember. It comes and goes. I sometimes wonder if i should accept that it is just part of me. I am anxious about family at the moment. What are some thoughts others have on dealing with anxiety and why is it that it keeps occuring? Thanks

Dear New Member~
I'd like to welcome you here ot hte forum. A good move on your part to find out differing ideas about your life which must be highly unpleasant, made worse by not having any real control.
May I ask if there is anything in particular with you family you are worried about?Sometimes anxiety or worry is justified, other times not.
I have a diagnosed anxiety conditon that would come in waves, sometimes less, sometimes more, often when there was nothing to actually be anxious about. As well I'd think on past and future events and imagine the worse. I could not stop it and only started to improve when I had help.
I am not a doctor and cannot advice you as to if you have a similar condition, that's the job of a clinician. As a result I would strongly suggest you contact your GP and be tested, you may well have a mental health issue. If you do that opens up the pathway to treatment.
Thanks to treatment and family support I'm not the same person nowadays, and while a little prone to excessive anxiety it is under control and I have a happy life.
You asked about things one can do. I use a free smartphone app called Smiling Mind which, apart freom a great deal of information, has a vast number of exercises in it, graduated from the simplest to the most advanced. It took practice, I started with kid's ones, but now I can use it as a mindfulness exorcise which breaks the undesirable chain of thoughts I was experiencing and leaves me calm.
Do you have anyone who is htere to support you? I find my partner is very good at pointing out when my worry becomes excessive.
If you would like to come back and say how you get on that would be great
