Hi

My name is Tasha and I'm 20 years old. I suffer from social anxiety. Sometimes feel like I am the only who gets panic attacks but reading a lot of everyone's posts I've realized I have got people to talk to who will understand me.  Decided to join today as I have had the worst morning and my first serious panic attack. I was excited as I had an aged care trainee-ship lined up but when I arrived today, I started getting dizzy and hot and paranoid so I quickly left without saying why, then didn't stop crying for hours. I don't know if I will ever be successful because at the moment I feel hopeless. Sorry for my first introduction being so lame but I would love to know if anyone has been in a same situation 😞

 Tasha 🙂

Sorry to hear about your terrible day. I would speak to your GP ASAP and explain what happened.

Do you still want to do the traineeship. If so get a medical certificate for today and a few extra days to get your strength back. See if he can help you find a councellor to see urgently to get some support and ideas/ strategies to assist.

Good luck

Hey Tasha,

Welcome to the Beyondblue forums! Welldone to you for reaching out to us on here it's the first big step to feeling better.

Panic attacks are awful! I have suffered from quite servere ones throughout my life so far and i don't wish them upon anyone.. they are different for everyone and sometimes they are worst than others.

Welldone to you for getting that trainee-ship lined up that is great! Not great on the outcome, but you did go and even though you didnt stay you still got up and went.. i know how it feels to have something so amazing right in front of you but your anxiety prevents you from pursuing it. But that doesn't mean you can't achieve it in the future, are you able to do that trainee-ship again?  If so give it another shot explain to them what happened the main thing is to be honest with yourself and to others. If you are unable to go for the same one that is ok keep looking something similar or even better will turn up. But just because the first one didn't go to plan don't give up on your dreams and goals that you have set for yourself.

Try finding something that keeps you calm or occupied so you can distract yourself if you are going to have a panic attack for me i had relaxation straigies i use to practice if i was having a panic attack because it helped take my mind off of what was happening and kept me calm find something that works for you and when suffereing from a panic attack always remember and focus on your breathing it is what's most important.

Stay strong and keep in touch let us know how you are going! And welldone to you.
