I've just been so anxious.

I am pretty sure I have depression.

But I have been feeling so anxious lately. I've been doing this thing where I count stuff and when I don't I feel like I am about to have a panic attack and now slight messes really bother me. At school, I have to have my pencils lined up or in my pencil case and it really really bothers me when my friends throw paper around. It doesn't make any sense to me as I am a naturally messy person.

I got in trouble with my mum for leaving a mess in the car on the ride to school this morning and when she told me off, I was so nervous. I felt like I couldn't breathe and my heart was beating really fast so I started to count the number of trees we drove past (24 until I lost count) and it kinda calmed me down. Also when I lose count, I get really anxious again and I feel like something really heavy in on my chest.

I'm not sure why I am feeling this way or when it started. Please help.

Hi,

That sounds like things have been pretty tough lately.

Perhaps, one of the best peices of advice I could give you is to go see a GP/Psychologist? They can help pin point what exactly it is you are feeling and why you are feeling what you are feeling. It can be scary to seek help but you have done a good job coming here.

There is definitely a lot going on, I sense a lot that could be due to anxiety as well. BB offers heaps of support and information - perhaps, check out these links https://www.youthbeyondblue.com/understand-what's-going-on/anxiety https://www.youthbeyondblue.com/understand-what's-going-on/depression and see if these help clear your head a bit!

I suffer from anxiety so I understand the feeling of doing certain behaviours without reason and just wanting to stop but you cant.

I, as well as other members here are happy to help! 🙂

I too suffer from anxiety and understand the behaviours and thoughts that go with it and how stressful and alone you can feel. But you are not alone here we are all happy to help! I definitely think seeking professional help as well will help bring some clarity!

Best of luck!

Hi Wish,

What you are describing sounds very much like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (an anxiety disorder), and perhaps also general anxiety. I advise you to make an appointment with your GP, so that they can give you their professional advice.

I have had OCD since I was 13, and now I'm 22. OCD often isn't logical. There may be aspects of your life that are seemingly unaffected by obsessive thoughts and compulsions, while very specific situations or routines must be a certain way.

It's vital that you ask your doctor for their opinion and for their help. You could also talk to your Mum about what you're experiencing. It's good to be open with communicating these sorts of issues and situations with parents. I have learned this from personal experience!

Good luck overcoming the anxiety.

Best wishes,

SM
