i my names asha and im 14, for the past 3 years (which doesnt really look the long) i have had really bad depression cause by a bad family and a raging mother who takes all her problems out on me which has cause me to become self destructive and depressed almost all times of the day i feel like just not being alive would help ease the pain. i have had no one to talk to about my problems other then my pillow because i real like i would just be a burden to my friends who dont have any idea what im going through , lately it has gotten worse and i think its time i talk to someone about it who would understand and not just think its me being a edgy teen (i know the difference between being a teen and having depression) .
sorry for the rouge introduction
asha,x

Hey there Asha,
I can certainly understand how you feel -- I personally struggled (and still struggle) with depression for the majority of high school before I eventually started telling a friend or two here and there. I felt like it would be a burden to my friends to hear what's on my mind or the negative things that have been on my mind. After a few years, a friend actually commented that I haven't been seeming myself, and I started telling them things. They didn't judge me or blame it on just being an 'edgy teen' -- in fact it was quite the opposite, as though my hesitance to tell anybody proved it wasn't for attention. Perhaps your friends might feel the same way if you tried talking to them. You could even ask them if it'd be okay for you to talk about something serious and heavy, that way you know you're not burdening them.
If that might be a bit difficult to do, there's plenty of places on the forums to talk about what's on your mind -- you're more than welcome to do so! We may be online, but we can still listen, and who knows, perhaps we can even help you talk to your friends about it.
Aside from this, I should also note something pretty important: professional help. I can assure you that no psychologist worth their salt would judge you for what you're going through -- they're trained to listen and they're trained to help. If you feel up to this, you can get started on it by visiting your GP and asking about a mental health plan (this is free for up to 10 sessions!). If you need more information on this, I'd be happy to oblige or to send you some resources.
Best of luck,
--Calebark

to be honest i have tried talking to my friends about my problems but there response was silence and a "damn that sucks bro" there no help and kinda make it worse for me. about going to a professional its not a good solution for me personally. i live very far out of town and my mum doesn't believe i need help ( she doesn't know the impact she has on me mentally) i really dont want to go to anyone face to face it doesnt help my anxiety. online chats are better for me
thanks for replying

Hello Asha, can I welcome you to the forums and to try and talk to your friends is always something you would really like to happen, but the topic may not be something that interests them so I'm pleased you have come here.
Having a mother that treats you like you've said is certainly not going to benefit you at all, especially when she says that there is nothing wrong with you, and this is sad because she is only thinking of herself and not you.
Depression of any type is different between you at your age to how you feel your mother feels, the comparison can be quite contrasting.
I'd like to hear back from you and what you share with us stays with us, especially as we don't know who you are or what you look like.
You must be struggling to cope with the situation you are now in, I'm sorry that this has happened.
You could also talk to Kids online 1800 55 1800, Chat with us online (Available 8 am – 12 am, Reachout.com or HeadSpace on www.headspace.org.au/
Take care and hope to hear back from you, and I won't mention going to see anybody, we have to try and help you get the strength first.
Geoff.

Hi Asha,
I’m sorry your Mum treats you wrong, treating someone with disrespect over your own problems is certainly not great behaviour, especially for a Mother, I get that feeling of not being able to talk to your friends about it, I’m sure that’s hard, but I’m sure they would care and be quite helpful if you ever needed to talk, I mean, that’s what good friends are for.
I hope you feel better talking to people on the forums, they are really kind as far as I’ve seen, and I know there are people with experience with these sorta subjects.
If you ever have an issue, or just want to talk to someone, let me know,
- Sam
