Hi,
I'm fourteen and have anxiety. And I've found that poetry has really helped me. I see a physiologist and that's really great too but in the times when I'm feeling way too anxious to even think about doing mindfulness or any of that I channel everything that's inside of me into poetry. I guess it is a form mindfulness. I love writing and reading, so I guess this is why I like writing poetry.
I just thought if you are feeling bad channel it into something you love. If you love being creative, channel into something like poetry or maybe painting etc. I feel like poetry has also made me sort out all my tangle of feelings and not made it so confusing anymore.
I guess my opinion is, when you are feeling anxious, take a few deep breaths, sit down somewhere and do something you love.
So yeah. That's it. I guess.
Well, if you read this, thanks. And I hope it's helped.

Hello Guest_4973
A Big Welcome to you and thankyou for posting too!
I have had anxiety since I was 23 and its a pain. I noticed that you are 14 with anxiety, and that you have a lot of strength to post and help others by doing so. Most of the people that click on BB read and choose not to post which is fine. You have posted and with good ideas too 🙂
I just wanted to say thankyou for making a difference with your input about how you cope. There are many super kind people on the forums that you have helped and they can be here for you too
You are spot on...poetry is a form of mindfulness...Well said. Can I ask you how long you have had anxiety for?
Also if you have any poetry to share, please go ahead and post it...We would love to read any poetry that you have written 🙂
If I can quote something you said "when you are feeling anxious, take a few deep breaths, sit down somewhere and do something you love" You have a lot to offer....I really like what you have written
It would be really good if you could post back with more tips and especially your poetry. I am not lucky enough to be a 'young person' anymore...I wish! You have helped me out tonight with your post.
You are an inspiration
My kind thoughts
Paul

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
Like Paul said, you are very insightful for your age, and it's fantastic that you posted to help others! When I was struggling the most with my mental health (in my late teens), I wrote some poetry too.
There is a forum thread for poetry sharing here, where you can read poetry and even share some if you wish to: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/bluevoices-community/forums/bb-social-zone/the-poetry-corner---post-your-poems-in-here
I used to make scrapbook collage pages on A3 blank sheets of paper. I bought A3 display folders to put the finished sheets into. I used photos, word cuttings from magazines, quotes, inspiring images, old cards, handwritten notes etc.
I hope your writing and painting keeps making you happy 🙂
Best wishes,
SM

Hi Guest,
Your maturity and insight are impressive. Thanks for sharing. Your contribution is much appreciated.
I totally agree, mindfulness is the way to go. Anything that can absorb a straying mind will help. But writing, may it be poetry or prose has the added benefits of helping us clarify our thoughts and feelings to ourselves and also casting our demons out on the page, instead of letting them gnaw at us from the inside. Bringing them out into the open creates a distancing from them. This distance allows us to be more objective about our issues because a bit of emotional involvement then drops away...
Great to have you on board.

Hi,
Wow, thanks for the response. I wasn't expecting something that nice. Thank you.
Um, I've had anxiety since I was ten, I think. Although at the time I had no idea what it was.
I'm really glad I helped you. It means a lot. I might post some more tips soon.
Thanks again,
Guest

Hey there Lennie!
Thanks for posting! I loved reading what you had to say because I totally agree! Creative therapy is something I find personally very effective. I do everything from drawing to painting to crafts and writing. Putting thoughts onto paper or into an outlet is so important, and I strongly recommend keeping a journal too.
Once again thank you for posting, I hope it encourages other readers to give it a go because it really is such a useful and fun technique when it comes to handling anxiety and depression.
