Hi rhys,
Ah, the age old question...
You will get as many opinions on it as there are people on this planet.
My subjective 2c is, yes, I agree with you that life is intrinsically meaningless. I particularly struggled with that for some years.
The plus is if I perceive life as fundamentally meaningless, paradoxically it's also empowering because it gives me the freedom to create my own version of "meaning." Sure, maybe this is a desperate attempt to make my life more personally worthwhile, and one could easily argue that we tell ourselves lies to make life seem "meaningful." But hey, if it helps me get through the day...
I found reading books by Satre and Nietzsche helpful as they both hold the philosophy that life is essentially meaningless (we are "doomed to be free") so the onus is on us, as humans, to create our own sense of meaning.
Anyway, I don't think that I've said anything particularly helpful but just wanted to let you know you're not alone in those thoughts.

hello Rhys, thanks for your comment and what you may or may not be true, I think it depends on how you look at your own circumstances and whether there are external influences that have taken control, and depression will make you feel this way without doubt.
We may thrive to do our best with the knowledge we have, but no one can possibly know everything that's impossible, it can't be done, so if your life has been travelling along in a comfortable way where any problems can be sorted out without much effort, that's how you want to live, but when you have an external force that begins to infiltrate your personal space, then that's when it's possible to become confused and that's what depression does to anybody.
There is an enormous difference between somebody who isn't suffering from any MI compared to someone who is unfortunately burdened down by MH. Geoff.
