Hi,

I was diagnosed with clinical depression a couple of years ago. Think I’ve had it all my life though. Also major anxiety disorder, social anxiety being the highlight.
Wuestion is, why do I still feel bad when on meds? I’ve been really really low, last 2 weeks.

Hi Lea85,

Welcome to the forums! We're happy to have you. While I can't provide specific medical advice or discuss specific medications, I can share that I have also been diagnosed with depression and have been taking medication for it for years. Antidepressants often take several weeks to begin to work, and sometimes they require additional adjustments to dose/kind until you find the regimen that works best for you.

I would say that in the grand scope of recovery from clinical depression, 2 weeks from beginning meds is early days yet. That said, I would absolutely encourage you to direct any questions or concerns to the doctor who is prescribing the meds for you. Do you mind my asking if you are comfortable with them and would be okay to reach out and share your concerns?

Always here for you on the forums.

Best,

Gems

Have you been feeling even worse than usual while on your meds? If you are concerned or alarmed by how much worse you have been feeling since starting, I would again encourage you to get in touch with your prescribing doc.

Hi Lea85, welcome.

All meds are different for everyone. Please bare in mind that antidepressants of any kind can take a few weeks to a few months to work, so that could be why, also a low dosage.

Thanks for your advice. I will speak to my dr again. I’ve been on the highest dose of an ad for 2 & a bit years. Psychiatrist prescribed a low dose anti psychotic to help me sleep.
Nothing has set off this latest episode. I dunno. Maybe hormones. I feel like I’m being lazy & not trying hard enough to be well.
I will go and book a Telehealth phone appt now.
it is lovely to see someone is their. Thank you!

Hi lea85 it takes 4-6 weeks (I was told 6 weeks by my gp but I’ve learned from reading on the forums for some it can be as soon as 4 weeks) for a antidepressant to start working but for me it was 6 weeks during which I felt like I was on a rollercoaster with my moods/emotions ect ect ect but it will improve. The dosage my gp put me on was like the entry level dosage but a week or two ago I had a appointment to see her and now I’m on the standard dosage as yes I was still quite up & down (i realised I was slowly going back to how I was before ad’s but it’s picked up now) plus as I still am she’s given me another k10 to do.
