Hi Pat74,
Starting depression medication can be a difficult decision. I don't have personal experience but from my knowledge there are two factors need to know.
1. Most anti-depressant start to help within 2 weeks of when you start taking them. But it usually takes at least 4 to 6 weeks before you get the full effect, and might take as long as 12 weeks.
2. There are many types of anti-depressants that fits different people and have different side affects.
Therefore it is important to talk to your doctor about your needs and concerns before taking starting the medication, as well as the medication's effect and your feelings during the process, to see if it's necessary to adjust the medication.
Hope everything will be better.

Hello Pat, the medication for depression is often suggested by your doctor/psychiatrist on what they usually prescribe, may be it will work or perhaps there will be too many side-effects that don't agree with you, no one knows this, until you start taking it, however these may settle down or decrease over time.
I tried at least half a dozen antidepressants before the right one was found that agreed with me and had little effects and have been taking this particular one for 20 years or more, but the dosage has been increased over this time.

Hey Pat74
I recently went to my GP about starting anti depressants. I haven't gone on them yet though so we'll have to see what happens.
If you can, it would help to talk to a professional to get their opinion if your thinking about going on medication. I'll definitely give feedback once i start to let you know.

Hey Paddy74,
I recently started medication 6 weeks ago. This is of couse just my personal opinion and experience. But for me, i've noticed a world of difference. I'm starting to think a little clearer and the 'brain fog' has lifted. Yes im still experiencing lows, but i've noticed a few highs and my general mood seems more stable. I've also noticed a little less negative ruminating. I had a few side affects in the first few weeks, and then again increasing the dosage, but these were communicated as normal by my doctor and I had no concern as they passed.
I wish you the best on your journey.
