Hello Tyler, thanks for posting your comment.
I think one of the first questions you have to ask yourself is that you can't force anyone to get help if they don't want it, but let them know that's it's OK to ask for help, and if they start talking about their struggles, all they need is for someone to sit down and listen to what they want to say.
If you start to be critical then they will close up and not say anything more, it goes along the saying 'you can't get blood out of a stone'.
If you are the one who is struggling, talk with someone you feel as though you can trust and perhaps ask them if they will come with you to the doctors.
I would be inclined to do the K-10 depression test a few times and suggest you write down on some paper how you actually feel from when you wake up to when it's bedtime.
Try and read the threads which involve yourself on this forum, there will be much said that you can relate to.
Best wishes.
Geoff.

Hey Tyler,
Welcome to the forums and its great to have you here. You will find these forums are extremely loving, caring, sensitive and non-judgemental and we are all here to receive support and provide support to people who are struggling with their mental health at present.
Geoff has said some great things above and I won't repeat anything he has mentioned. I think it is great that you are motivated to learn more about mental health conditions and you will use this knowledge to improve the emotional well-being of yourself and your friends. This is extremely selfless of you and it shows great character.
If you don't mind me asking, is there any specific topic/concern on your mind at present?
Hope to see you around.
All the best,
Nick.

Dear Tyler
Welcome to the forum. It's always heart warming to read posts from those who want to learn and help others. Thank you.
The guys have given some great suggestions. I especially like Geoff's suggestion of recording how you feel on waking and going to bed.
Have you looked around the site? BB has heaps of information on depression and anxiety plus stories from those who have been there, as it were. Start on the home page and click through the various links. Lots of information. Have a look at the fact sheets and booklets. It's always good to know as much as you can.
I look forward to reading your posts in other threads.
Mary
