New member - dealing with new diagnosis

Mollie_59

Hello all. I'm new to the forum. I've recently been diagnosed with severe depression, generalised anxiety disorder, and OCD. I'm in my 30s and have only sought help recently, although I've had some of these issues for many years. Adjusting to this reality, figuring out medication, and getting used to therapy is such a big adjustment. I'm also looking at a hospital stay if my depression doesn't improve soon.
Looking forward to becoming part of the community, hopefully getting some support from you all. Thanks for reading 😊

Hi Mollie,

Welcome to the community 🙂 Thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm glad to hear that you've reached out for help after experiencing some of these things for so many years. It's a massive achievement and you should be proud of yourself. Do you mind me asking how you felt when you finally received these diagnoses?

I can imagine that dedicating time to therapy and figuring out medication would be a big adjustment for you, but you deserve to dedicate this time to yourself and your recovery 🙂 It sounds like you're committed to your recovery and I'm really happy that you've reached that point.

Sending lots of hope your way!

Hi Swan. Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I'm committed yet, but I'm trying. I'm mostly just exhausted to be honest. I'm so tired.
In some ways it was a relief, knowing these things weren't simply "traits", but in many ways its been so confronting. I hate talking about myself. Opening up has been really hard.
Reading other posts has been interesting - it's nice and sad to know many others are going through things.
