Need to talk

I’ve never talked about stuff it’s been really hard first time I spoke up to my sister last night and told her I’ve been like this but hid it. For years I’ve struggled over past things I’ve done that I can’t change I just have to try to live with it myself.

Hey Annalee,

Thanks for sharing whats happening for you. Sounds like you've been living with alot of regret and guilt for things that have previously happened and that you've been feeling very alone in all of this. It certainly takes alot of courage to reach out and share how we feel, so we're really glad that you have done so with your sister and now with our online community.

Coming to terms with things we regret is not easy for anyone, and you're right, whilst we are unable to change whats done, we do have alot of control over how we manage the present and the impact that this can ourselves, others and on our future. Please know that you are not alone in your struggles and there is much support available.

If you would like some immediate additional support, we would recommend that you get in contact with the Beyond Blue Support Service. They are available 24/7 by phone on 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 1pm-12am AEST on our website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport  One of our friendly counsellors will be able to talk through these feelings with you and can offer support, advice and referrals.

We also trust that members of our online community will stop by here to offer some further wisdom.

Hi Annalee,

Thank you for your post.

I hope your doctors appointment went well.

I understand we regret things in the past that we have done, I also struggled with things I did in the past…. The best thing I did was to forgive myself for not knowing better then as I do now….. I also learned to forgive others this helped me to move forward.

Forgiveness will set you free and letting go will help you to grow.

Seeing a psychologist could help you they can help you to look at things with a different perspective.

Hello Annalee, can we ask how did your appointment go?

There are so many reasons why we decide to hide how we are feeling, one is, we don't want others to worry about us, or we don't feel comfortable opening up, or they won't believe what we have to say overshadowing it with, well you have everything you need so how can you feel this way, but they forget to realise that any mental illness has no boundaries, it can affect anybody and for no particular reason, so yes, I'm struggling even though you're not.

If we try and live with this by ourselves, the problem only escalates, there are people out there who specifically handle this type of feeling, talk about what's happened and are able to give you different types of solutions to overcome this, if you try and solve this by yourself, you only go around in circles and may avoid the important and most difficult parts that may eventuate once again, where a counsellor will help you through this.

Best wishes.

Geoff.
