Hi
I have recently bern rejected by two insurance companies for life insurance.
Has anyone else had this experienced?
Has anyone had any luck getting insurance recently with a particular insurance company?

Hi Catherine, welcome to the forums. Beyondblue has been doing quite a bit of work in this area: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/about-us/about-our-work/discrimination-in-insurance

hi CatherineO, as Sophie_M has said this has been an enormous topic up for discussion, as the insurance companies have always discriminated against those suffering from any type of mental illness, so please read the link and then can you get back to us, by the way it's happened with me. Geoff.

Hi Sophie and Geoff
Thanks for responding I did read the info and I filled in the online form.
I have made a compliant to Real Insurance and received and email says they would get back to me in 45 days. So they are in no hurry to deal with this.
Sophie I will keep you posted on how this plays out.
If there is someone at Beyond Blue who I should directly keep up to date let me know an email address
You should have mine on the database.

dear Catherine, although no names are allowed, however I too was rejected by them, which is annoying, because they have all these fancy ads on TV indicating that everything will be accepted, when in fact they aren't. Geoff. x

Does anyone have any suggestions about income protection insurance? I either can't get cover, or mental illness is not covered in the payouts......it's quite frustrating!

hi 14J, unfortunately the same applies with income protection as it does for life insurance, but please have a look at what Sophie_M has suggested.
Any insurance company will try their hardest not to have to pay out, and look for anything which will allow them to partly or fully refuse to make any payment.
They 'rule the roost'which the government State or Federal need to look into, I remember when there were floods and thousands of home were wiped out, by their insurance co. found something very small which disqualified any claims, until the government steps in.
Income insurance is an expensive policy, one which you would hope to get you by, but the small print is too extensive and is not known about when you take out a policy, that's if you can get one.
This needs to be done and changed by the government who have to change it all. Geoff.
