Hi all,

I'm new to the knowledge of the existence of my anxiety, I've apparently had it for 2 years now, without my family or my knowledge. I'm an avid horse rider and I wish to get a horse as it is the only  thing that makes me feel better, apart from my dog and a computer game. I am still in high school and have given up completely because of it. I hate anxiety and I hate having it. It is wrecking my life. I just started using anti anxiety meds but it won't work for 1-2 weeks.

I hate it.

Hi Pepper,

Welcome to the forum!

Anxiety is a pain. I was diagnosed at 13 and still have anxiety (more manageable now) at 23. So it's been 10 years!

I'm glad you know about your anxiety condition now, and hopefully your medication starts having a positive effect soon. It's great that you love horses and riding them, and I'm glad you have a great pet to keep you company at home. I adore cats, though our Golden Retriever is great too!

Keep seeing your doctor about your anxiety and the symptoms you are experiencing. This site has great fact sheets about anxiety which are to-the-point and easy to understand. Talk to your parents about how you're doing if you're overwhelmed. During my teens, my Mum was my biggest source of support and strength. I had a few friends at school who were aware of my anxiety, but it wasn't something I wanted to talk to them about in depth.

I recommend exploring the Young People and Anxiety section of this forum. There are some great stories and advice 🙂

Post back if you want to talk more about what's going on with you, or if you have specific questions.

Best wishes,

SM

Hi Pepper and Welcome!

Paul here and for having the Courage to Post too

I feel your frustration. I had anxiety for a few years and the feelings are dreadful..I do empathize.

Okay...The good news..(yes there is some) The symptoms do decrease in severity over time..with your doc.

* GP/Therapist are great..Thats a big move towards your recovery Pepper

* Anxiety is awful..Yes...It is also very very common..You have the guts to talk about it, and well done to you!

* I know you want your own horse....can you ride anyone Else's in the meantime?...maybe?

* The meds may work quicker but if not at least you have started 🙂 Great move again towards recovery Pepper

These are only some tips that have worked for me Pepper....I hope even one may help ease your anxiety

* If you drink coffee/redbull etc...dump it...it will only make the anxiety worse..

* Try to get good quality sleeps...A great way to have more energy the day if/when you get any anxiety

* Cellphone...ipads etc....Avoid these before bed..They do increase brain activity/thought processes..

* Treat the anxiety like a physical problem...example: invisible crutches...

* Try not to 'fight' the anxiety...it only makes it worse and adds more fuel to the fire..(yes it takes effort, practice)

* If possible have a couple (or even 1) of close people you can vent to...can be a huge help...

* Write to us...there are many wonderful people on here that can help you

If I may ask you Pepper? Do your parents know you have anxiety? Also, do you belong to a riding club at all?

We are here for you Pepper, it would be great if you could let us know how you are going......I hope you can 🙂

Kind Thoughts

Paul

I completely forgot to mention something. I also have ADHD and it makes school(grade 9) even more hell than it should be. I also take riding lessons once a week.

Hi Pepper

Thanks for your reply

That would make year 9 very difficult for you...I dont know if you parents know about what you are going through but I am parent and I hope my daughter would let me know.

SM is right here too Pepper...Your GP can be a great help....if you let them....

Riding Lessons once a week! You Legend!...How long have you been riding for? Sounds like you love it.
