Hi
everyone, I've been a member of this forum for a while now but never formally introduced myself.. no time like the present, right!

I've suffered from depression/anxiety on and off for most of my life. I've been treated with both medication and therapy. I recently switched to a new antidepressant and I think the readjustment is part of why I'm feeling so confused at the moment. I have periods where I feel like my depression is going away, but it always seems to return.

I've had a lot of very negative thoughts lately and I've felt like I had nobody to turn to about it. I don't even feel like I can confide in my closest friends about it. So, hopefully I'll be able to find some support here. It seems like a pretty nice place.

Hello Bridgeydidge!

It is a very nice place here and I hope you will post any time you feel like it. I have no doubt that you will find support and advice here.

Of course you are right about the readjustment and I hope you can remind your self that it may be causing your negative thoughts. I guess you need to stay in touch with the professional that prescribed this change and let them know exactly what is going on so you can be sure of what is going on. Be sharply aware of the positive things in your life and practice switching from your negative thoughts to the positive ones, pour your focus on to them. A notebook next to bed is handy to jot down some positive things that happened each day, practice looking for the positive. All the best, talk any time.

Hey Bridgeydidge!

You are in the right place 🙂 You are a kind and sensitive person which are fine qualities...

You can always turn to me or us on here.....the negative thoughts are very common...seriously...

It is sometimes very easy to say 'just concentrate on the positives' which is correct but if a sufferer has a'tired' mind this can be very difficult to do....

There are many kind people on here.....and I find your post helpful to myself....It would be great ......if you wish of course to hear how you are going....

If I may ask....do you have a person or 2 that you can confide in? If not thats fine...we are here for you.....And just to fair to you I have 2 people that I can talk to about anxiety & depression as I have it for a long time as well.

The change in medication is an interesting subject as we all have different degrees of anxiety and depression.

This is just from me...and my experience with this crappy disorder....so forgive me its not relevant to you....

* If a person is newly on meds...they should stick with them....

* As per what you mentioned in your post....if they aren't providing a 'general' improvement (its rarely perfect) keep your GP/Therapist in the know......frequently.....thats what they are there for...you are worth it.

Please let me/us know how you are going...

Be Gentle to Yourself Bridgeydidge 🙂

dear Bridgeydidge, hello and nice for you to be able to join the site.
When we change antidepressants (AD) we have high hopes that they will be able to 'fix'us, so that our depression/anxiety
or any other type instantly goes away, however it may not be that easy, because the AD can be another type, different
to the previous one, so then your symptom has to adjust to it.
Our expectations when we first start taking this new AD are high, so we naturally feel as though it has lifted and it
has gone, but then this may not be the case and it returns, so our journey continues.
We all hope that we can be of assistance to you, and I'm sure that you have many stories which you really want to talk
about, those that may have been hidden away with you trying to struggle with answers that you have never got. Geoff.
