Hi, I'm new

Hi,

My name is Adele, I'm 19 and I'm new here. I've joined because I really struggle to open up to people and I don't really have anyone to talk to about mental health.

I've just started taking antidepressants for anxiety and depression and only one person, my friend, knows about it. I'm just looking for some support, an opportunity to talk about some of this for the first time and to hopefully support others who are struggling too.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Adele

Hi Adele_G, welcome to the forums. I'm 20 and also on antidepressants.

Make sure you tell your GP about the meds - side effects, etc. Or if you have a Psychiatrist, let them know aswell. How are things for you?

Tayla

Hi people in this forum,
I'm new too. I'm waving to you 👋. I'm over 40. I've had a journey in relation to doctors, medication and seeking treatment for anxiety.

Hi Tayla,

Thank you for replying

I had an appointment with my GP yesterday and will check in again in a few weeks, and the chemist was really helpful and talked me through all the side effects. I'm not doing great but glad I'm staking steps to get more help, it's been so many years I just really hope I start to feel a bit better.

Adele

Hi Sea Pearl,

I'd love to hear about your experience of anxiety and getting treatment.

I had really bad anxiety during highschool and I started treatment in year 12. My biggest struggle is social anxiety, it really affects going to uni, making new friends and even staying connected with and maintaining relationships with current friends.

Thanks so much for replying,

Adele

Welcome also Sea Pearl. I've only been on meds since August, don't see Psychologists anymore because of bad traumatic experiences, only a Psychiatrist on Skype, although I'm worried he won't want to see me anymore.

Adele, you're welcome. Best of luck, thats good that the chemist was helpful, mine is too.

Hello Adele_G and also Sea Pearl, the two newcomers, your journey is important because you may be feeling different while you start taking these AD's so we're very keen to be with you while you're in this period, as you may not have anyone to talk to and have or need questions you want to ask, so please keep in touch with us.

Geoff.

Hi and welcome adele_g & sea pearl I’ve not been officially diagnosed with depression or anything yet but I’m just in the start of week 3 of starting to take a antidepressant for the first time in my life so got another 3 weeks basically before it kicks in as it takes 6 weeks before it starts working.

I know that when you start taking them you can feel worse before you start to feel better, did that happen for you?
