Not sure what's wrong with me but it seems I'm making my family miserable, especially my husband. I feel empty or broken or like an open wound inside but I don't know how to fix myself.

Hello OBP, and a warm welcome to you and sorry I've abbreviated your avatar.
I'm really sorry for the way you are feeling, it's terrible and only those who have been through it themselves know what it's like, although those living with a person suffering from depression are also affected.
Can I ask you to google the K-10 test, it will give you an indication of how severe your depression is, although I'm not qualified to give you this diagnosis, but do the test several times, but not one straight after the other, different days and times.
Then I would suggest you book an appointment with your doctor, take the results of this test with you, and if you like you can write down how you are feeling on a piece of paper and then hand this over to them, this will break the ice, so when they ask you 'how can I help you' then you won't forget to tell them everything.
If you want, take your husband with you, but this is not necessary, only if you feel a need to.
The doctor may prescribe some medication and refer you on to see a psychologist, with the 'mental health plan', this entitles you to 10 free sessions and may then decide to bulk bill you, that's further down the track but let's get feeling better.
If you feel comfortable then please tell us a little more, so we can then help you some more.
Take care.
Geoff.
