Dear Holly,
Welcome to Beyond Blue and well done for reaching out.
Sometimes it can be scary to reach out and ask for help, I hear you, because the outcome isn't guaranteed. However, doctors are there to help, and so long as you are honest about what is happening for you, they will write up a mental health plan to suit you and your needs.
One thing that I have learnt though, in my experience, is that doctors are not necessarily great at following up on your mental health plan, or helping you stick to it. There is, I think, a certain amount of following through, required from us; the patient.
My suggestion would be to ask/check on what kind of, and how much help you can also get from a referral to a counselor or psychologist, to help you through to a place where you can develop some more coping skills.
Anyway, I don't know if I helped any? I do hope I helped a little. Take care, I'll be thinking of you. xo

Holvee,
First off, and this may sound weird, but congratulations on making an appointment for your mental health plan: it's the start of a well-being journey! Also, being nervous and scared about the appointment is super natural. Who wouldn't be terrified of a new, unknown and vulnerable situation?
In my experience, GPs are very good in these types of situations. Their job and training is all aimed for your well-being and best interest, so I am confident you're in good hands. Let us know how it goes! 🙂
