Hello
this is my first post. As I promised my psychologist, I would sign up at beyond blue and start a new post. So I am making it now. Yet I feel nervous and frightened here.
It seems to be really big place and lots of people joining. I am new to any kind of forum like this and I have been “friend” for a little while with something nasty known as depression + anxiety. So my psychologist wants me to dive in and join the discussion here as a part of my recovery. I need to make at least 5 posts before I see her in 3 weeks! So here I am my first post. I hope I do it right.
thank you very much for reading

Hi Sueetties,
I'm also new here and have found the experience to be less daunting than I originally thought. I've actually found it quite therapeutic to share things with other people. So congratulations on your first post! Hopefully posting will become easier and less nerve wrecking the more you engage!
Good luck with everything!
Jaime.

Hi again.
Thank you for all your well wishes, kind words and insights. They are therapeutic.
I am a shy person and am always like this. I really hope one day I can break the hurdle to disclose my illness. I read an article this morning, it is said that 1 in 5 Australians will experience mental health issue. I was thinking: there are 400 employees in mybworkplace; accordingly 80 staff will be suffering, but I have never heard anyone mentioning about mental health illness. I am one of them. Is this a stigma?
I bought a notebook yesterday as I was so desperate and I can’t wait to start my day 1 entry. I haven’t written a diary for years, probably talking about back to my high school years- feeling young again!
My next psychologist is on the 5th Nov. I remember she did write down on my progress reports so I have to achieve all the ‘promises’ before I meet her. Things to action:
1. Doing exercises – running 1 hr daily, been 3 wks
2. Baking things weekly– I have done 2 lots for the last 2 wks
3. Start writing in a journal - this is something new and I feel excited about it
4. Make a contact with friends for a tea/lunch/meeting etc – I haven’t done this as yet
I still have a lot to work on. I did the k10 test and I scored 33 (vs 36 three months ago), so still high.

Hello Sueetties
Three points may not seem much but it shows which way you are going. It's like losing weight, one kg a week is good even though we want to move faster. In fact it may be a way to visualise your depression as excess weight you must lose to be healthy (or healthier). Baby steps, as my daughter told me.
It's a good start to buy a notebook so long as you sit down and write. I hope you will because when you look back you can see how far you have come. Journaling is good in the immediate here and now to help you sort out your feelings, hurt, wishes, actions etc. It's also good long term to see where you have come from. Well done.
There are a great many stats about mental illness in general and depression/anxiety in particular. It may be helpful to know you are not the only person struggling with MI but unless these others also put up their hands there is not a lot of point to the stats. Your job is to care for yourself and you are making changes and progressing well. Just as we become overweight over a period of time and lose the weight over time so with depression it will go away but not in a hurry. Don't mean to dishearten you, I want to reassure you that you are going the right way.
Have you looked at the stories about depression and anxiety? On the home page you will see some circles. Click the depression or anxiety circle, or both, and browse the site. All sorts of information there as well as stories. You may find the information and stories helpful when you feel ready to talk to others.
You know you can always come and bake at my home. I do not like cooking but I love the results of other people's work. 😊
Mary
