Changing 'mark this post as helpful' to 'thank you' VOTING CONCLUDED

Hi everyone, we've had a suggestion in the forum improvements thread about changing the title of the button below each post called 'mark this post as helpful'.

It has been suggested that we change the title of this button to 'thank you'.

Thoughts?

Thanks Chris;

This idea could inspire members to acknowledge posts just for their contributions instead of having to be 'helpful'. Hopefully it'll increase awareness of how important it is to validate a post, and that member as being valuable. It only takes a second...

Thankyou...

Hello Chris, Sez and everyone following.

Great idea!

Ok ive been umming and arring about whether to say somwthing. I still don't know but i guess im about to find out..

I wondering if we could have both thank you and helpful buttons. I think everyone should be validated and everything for sure and no doubts about it but im wondering if maybe we could still have the helpful mark for those extra posts that have that bit more insight into them.

I mark all posts as helpful atm but sometimes i wish i could give more recognition for those posts who really 'hit the nail on the head' so to speak

Unless there are other ways?

But now that ive written that i wouldnt want anyone to feel less valued because of a post. So just disregard that.

Hi Chris,

I think changing the "helpful" button to "thank you" is a great idea. I always hit the "helpful" button on others posts, particularly in my thread. It's very useful when I don't have the time or am not in the right mental space to reply immediately. It's my way of saying "I read your post; it's appreciated, but I can't write back at the moment."

I feel that "Thankyou" would be a nice way of acknowledging members' contributions, whether it was a first introductory post or reply to someone else.

This definitely a change I would welcome. I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on this.

I agree with this, I hesitate to press it every time even when I think the post is awesome.

... and I feel bad not acknowledging that I have read the post in any way.

Perhaps even the option of both? Unless that would be overly complicated to impliment of course.

Perhaps a simple "thank you" may be perceived as a bit curt, impersonal...an automated response so to speak.

Would it complicate things too much to add something like "you have been heard" for example ? Or thank you for sharing ?

Some good suggestions happening here. I might throw a couple of extra things into the mix to get some more discussion happening:

1. The reason we labelled the button "mark this post as helpful" when it was introduced was so we could have a subtle way of signalling to members that we encourage helpful posts, particularly in response to members who are seeking support. Does changing the label to something broader take away that signalling? Is that a problem?

2. Sometimes we're not in the best frame of mind when here on the forums. How would you feel to see that other people have had "thank you for posting" ticked on their post in a thread, but not you? Do you feel that way currently about the "helpful" button?
