Looking for Dr who specialises in PTSD for my wife

I've been trying to get my wife an appointment with a psychiatrist but either all are not taking new patients or we have to wait 2 months. I'm getting a bit desperate as she needs more professional help than i can give her. Does anyone have any ideas? Randwick or Hornsby area. Thank you

Hi Uncle Tezza,

Thanks for your post.

Unfortunately we're not able to give out any personal recommendations here as much as we would like to.

A couple of suggestions though -

- For the psychiatrists that have told you that they're not taking new patients or there's a wait list, ask them who might be available.

- Keep persisting. Rather than getting a re-referral from your GP, you can contact the psychiatrists directly. There's a good list here https://www.yourhealthinmind.org/find-a-psychiatrist

- Aim to see a psychologist or counsellor instead. While it's not what you were after, it can definitely help to bridge the gap, provide some short term support and they may be able to advocate and get you in sooner with a good psychiatrist.

- Try the mental health line on 1800 011 511. I found about this one on this website https://www.cclhd.health.nsw.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/MentalHealthLine.pdf I thought it would help given you said you're in NSW.

I hope that this helps! Best of luck.
