Hi Marlowe, I also feel like my life is worthless but am a lot younger than you so have so many more years to get through. I was fine until I hit 30 when I got hospitalized and medicated. I used to have a career earning reasonable money. Now I realise how hard life is and it just seems to get worse. After 30 I worked in a dead end job for 8 years but at least then I got to chat to my colleagues some of the time. Now I've been unemployed and lonely for over 2 years and my psychologist can't help with that and I know social isolation can increase as we move into old age. It will be hard for me socially when my mum dies and I have a couple of friends who are around her age too. Lack of novelty also gets me down. I feel like there is nothing new and I am just bored of all the free time I now have and life in general. I feel like it would be nice to have a relationship but I don't have a lot to offer. People tell me I should volunteer but those type of jobs do not sound interesting.

I've been seeing my psychologist for 2 years and prior to her I saw another psychologist who was a different specialist area for about 6 months.
It's funny, every time I think about finishing up (due to money, not wanting to commit or just thinking I'm fine without it) I have pushed through and reached another milestone. Another break through I didn't know was there.
Everyone is different and I know this depends greatly on who you see and why, but I'm personally of the opinion that as long as you are able to see someone, you should try to. Even people who don't live with chronic mental health conditions can benefit from an objective person to air their feelings and work through issues in their lives.
Something I've explored as an 'exit plan' with my psych is to space out the appointments more to see how I go. I'm not there yet, but if you're concerned you're seeing yours too much, could you trial something like this? Like going once a month, or less?
