Hey iv never been on or done anything like this before. Iv recently been diagnose with persistent depressive disorder and had anxiety for quiet awhile. Iv just been told that medication is my best bet at this point but I have no idea how it works or makes you feel. Obviously it is supposed to help but iv heard that it can make you worse before it gets better and I'm not sure if I can handle that. I have no one around me to talk to and I feel I'm slowly digging myself a deeper hole that is becoming harder and harder to get out of. I really need help in how to talk to my partner about this. I know they won't understand even though they will try there hardest too and I'm not sure how to control those feelings. I just would love some suggestions with all of this.

Hello Jettyboi

Welcome to the forums and good on you for having the courage to post too! It takes a lot

It would be a pain to have been recently diagnosed with this common yet awful disorder Jettyboi

I understand what you are going through as I have the same disorder as yourself. I have heard what you have mentioned that they make us feel worse before we get better. I have been on meds for a while and just for me I didnt feel worse before I became better.

I had bad anxiety when I started my meds and just for me I felt no different until my depression started to ease

You mentioned that you couldnt handle it (if you felt worse before better) and thats understandable.

The meds can work in a few weeks and sometimes a few days too....Everyone is different. The objective is that you will have a better foundation on which you can live your life 🙂

The meds do provide us with a solid platform that we can heal and readjust with the regular support of a GP or a psychologist/psychiatrist

You dont have to dig your hole any deeper as you are with many gentle people on the forums that are going through the same as you are now Jettyboi

In regard to talking to your partner.....depression is no different to a physical health problem....Its just that people cant 'see' it like a broken leg or a bad infection. Clinical Depression is a very real and common disorder

I have put a link below that you can let your partner read so they have a better understanding of what is happening....
