Finding help

I'm not sure how to go about this but I'm looking for info on admitting myself I'm not sure even where if it's just a hospital and how much it would cost I need intensive help I went to online chat but noticed there is a time which I didn't realise I'm not sure what to do and I can't take much time off work especially if it's gonna cost alot

I need help I'm not OK and I know that but I'm not sure what help I need so I feel like if I admitted myself maybe I can really focus on my mental health as I haven't done in many years mostly because it is expensive but I've reached the point where I need help or who knows

Hi Helpneeded,

Good on you for reaching out here. It sounds like you have been really struggling. Things must be very difficult for you lately...I think it’s very brave of you to realise that you need help and that you are willing to obtain it.

My gentle suggestion would be to give the mental health crisis line for your state a call for more information. For example, in the ACT, the mental health crisis line is called the Mental health triage service. In Tasmania, it’s called the mental health services helpline. Etc, etc. They all serve the same purpose but the name just varies between states.

One way to find a listing for mental health lines for ALL states is to type “CATT Health Direct” in your browser’s search bar. Something called “CATT - the crisis assessment and treatment team” by Health Direct (which is a not-for-profit organisation that is owned by the Australian government, and operates on a nation wide basis) should show up. If you open that page up and scroll down a bit, you should find a list of the mental health lines for ALL states.

I hope this is a little helpful. If you have any questions or just want to write, please don’t hesitate to do so. I feel there are many caring and supportive people here who would want to reach out to you.

Warmth and kindness,

Pepper

hello and welcome

I see youve already met the lovely Pepper, and she has given some wonderful advice.

If your in immediate danger then please call lifeline, or 000 and they can help you. Alternativley if you have a public hospital you can check in yourself by going to the emergency department.

i would give the Crisis team a ring though as they can do house visits, and also help you get into hospital as well.

Do you have the support of your gp or a psychiatrist? They are some others who can help get you admitted to a hospital too and would be a great starting point for you getting some help esp since once you leave hospital they want you to have professional supports too.
