i have been taking an SNRI antidepressant for 3 years and before that I had been on two others; meaning i have been on meds since 2004. After taking 120 mg daily i am now down to 30 mg every 7- 10 days, but have to be honest i am struggling with extreme irratibility and angry outbursts, lashing out at the ones who i know dont deserve it, i.e loved ones. I know as i am spewing my insults that i am being unfair but i cant seem to control it! Any one else experienced similar and can offer any advice?

Call whomever prescribed the medication, and request an emergency appointment. Tell them what you've told us, and that the scale back is too rapid. Request immediate restoration of former levels from the last time you were not irritable.  It should be a small, steady dose taken every day. The daily dose is important for stability and consistency in brain chemistry, which drugs like SNRIs are designed to alter. By taking a tablet every 7-10 days your brain is in haywire.

Any easement off medication needs to be closely monitored to prevent situations like this. Unfortunately the Australian public health system is overloaded, and I have to second guess everything doctors do for me, or to me, to ensure they're not being stupid.
