Supporting 15yr old son with depression

Hi, I have a 15year old son who suffers from depression. He currently only leaves his room when he has to work. He connects with his friends online. It is really hard getting him to come and do something with his family. He is really low at the moment and seems sad all the time. He currently sees a psychologist. After any advice to help me as a parent.

Hi Izzy-c,
I am sorry you and your son are going through a tough time, it can be hard to get teenagers to open up. It is good he is connecting with friends, but honestly, being 15 is a normal time to disengage from family a bit - I know I did when I was that age. I am sure he will come back around, you just need to be there for him and do not be afraid to let him know you care. Do not get upset at him for pulling away, that will only push him away further. Just look out for him and show him that you are there for him always.
It is great he is seeing a psychologist - could you arrange a time to see the psychologist together to discuss how you can maintain a healthy family relationship?
I hope things improve soon,
Jaz xx

Thanks Jaz for your rely. We have spoken with his psychologist together and also separate to give us strategies. I feel helpless and worry that because he is disengaged.

That is completely understandable. I would say that he is just fuelled by teenager hormones along with his mental health struggles. You just need to be there for him (and don't be afraid to show it).
