Please help me too understand what is happening

Picture this... I bounced my ball so high it landed over a wall. I climbed the top of it. I can see the ball clearly. I know exactly where it is. All I have to do is get it. I am frozen! I swipe at the ball from the top of the wall with my arms crossing over each time. I can't grab it because it's too far away. I can't push my brain to make the effort to get the actuall ball.

This is how I feel. I was once well groomed always had pride in my appearance and so many other great things. Now, I don't even care anymore. I can't be bothered getting out of bed yet I am super ashamed if anyone would ever see me like this. I am getting further and further away as each day passes. I want my old self back so badly but it's over the wall....

Dear Memphis Lee

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your story.

It's a great analogy for losing your ball but there is a better one for retrieving the ball. The wall is the barrier and you need to remove it rather than sitting precariously on top of the wall trying to reach the ball with no assistance.

Assistance comes in many forms. You can talk here on Beyond Blue and we will support you as much as possible. We cannot retrieve the ball though. For that you need a more specialized service.

This starts with making an appointment with your GP and being completely open about your difficulties. You should make a long appointment. This equates to moving closer to the wall and taking a good look at it. Your GP may suggest a number of actions such as medication and/or counselling. It's also possible you have a physical illness which is causing you distress. So first step, go and see your GP. If you find getting started difficult then print your post above. It will give your doctor somewhere to start.

Please tell us a bit more about yourself, what you like doing, do you work, do you have family and friends nearby to support you. Love to talk more.

Hi Memphis, good for you, this is the beginning to getting your old self back

As White Rose said GP first starting point then from there it'll start happening.

Do you know any specifics of why you've become so low

Terrible place to be isn't it

With the right help and of course support and help where we can here as White said too it's back up from here.

You can & will get back up although atm you probs don't think so a big help is believing you can

Good luck with everything

Cya later on here hopefully to know how you're going
