some people do different faces like emojis as they like drawing. I do words as I I like writing.There is an example you can adapt.
At bedtime, or whenever you have a few quiet moments, outline the following columns to help you reflect on a few of your biggest emotions from the day:Emotion name
What caused this emotion?
Behaviours or actions this emotion caused me to take
Is this emotion appropriate to the situation?
I am sure there are apps as well.
I like putting in the time of my mood so I can see if there is a pattern. I am nit a morning person!

I just keep track of mine by remembering, but keeping a diary may have allowed me to find some earlier, especially where they had milder effects.
If I was going to do a diary I would record the moods, stresses, any use of alcohol or other drugs (best avoided) and other health symptoms. Most of my depression is caused by stress or illness. Anything viral and post-viral, or sinusitis, or severe allergy causes me to become depressed. Basically anything that affects my immune system. I spent most of last summers bushfires feeling depressed due to the smoke. Alcohol is a problem, so I don't drink it. After the depression I go fairly high and then return to my more "normal" mild hypomania. Stress tends to make the variation more pronounced.

Mocha and everyone wonder whether you decided to use a mood journal.
I had ot kept one for a while but I have started again and find I can have several moods in one day.
