Is this normal?

The past week or two I’ve been experiencing very vivid & real like feeling dreams and wanting to know if that’s normal with depression? I’ve also woken up from one where my heart and/or my pulse was racing but that went away within 5-10 minutes after I woke up. Also still having racing thoughts, major spurts of energy occasionally and having trouble sleeping at night.

Hello Mocha delight, as best as I can say, it also happens with me, but depends on whether you have overcome your depression because that determines how you are able to cope with them.

If the dreams are related to your depression, then these vivids ones can be so traumatic and intense they may affect how you are able to function, the good part for me is the intensity wears off over time.

When you are able to overcome this illness, for me, then these dreams can be dismissed as I am able to ignore them.

While we sleep and I can't say with any authority, is that MI wants us to sleep or at least try to, but we can't stop our subconscious from working, no matter how hard we try.

We only wish the dreams we have were pleasant.

Take care.

Geoff.

Hi mocha delight

Thanks for sharing this with us- we hope these dreams aren't too frustrating for you. Are they distressing for you or are you just curious about their origin? If you'd like to address them I recommend maybe heading to your GP- they can recommend you a therapist or even a sleep specialist. Or if you already see someone about your depression, maybe you could mention it there? Just some food for thought.
