Hi,
This is my first time on a forum so please be kind. I have suffered depression and anxiety for many years. I have seeked help and spent thousands and I am at a loss. I have two extremely supportive people in my life but they don't seem to understand. My partner who I have been in a long and committed relationship of 8 years is a wonderful man but we are polar opposites. I over think he does not, I over obsess he does not. My mother is beautiful and I love her but she only knows the basics as I am afraid of judgement. I need help and I don't know where to go. I suffer terrible hormonal issues and find doctors don't quite understand how to help me. I just feel I am alone with it all and I am suffering silently yet I know I don't have too. I love and am loved so not all is negative but I feel this unstable feeling is putting immense pressure on the ones I love. Thank you for reading and I hope someone can give some wise words. I really appreciate any help x

Hi dear Poppy,
Aww welcome!
I am sorry you have suffered for so long with depression and anxiety.
I too have some hormone issues. And I know there is a link between hormones and depression. And even what we choose to eat is linked somehow to hormones and depression as well. I just don't understand it all as yet. Maybe you could ask Dr Kim, she has a thread on here, she may well be able to shed you some light.
Oh do you have thyroid issues, as I am aware that one of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism is actually depression?
I will be looking on your thread again to see if anyone else adds some helpful stuff for myself also.
Again a friendly welcome to you!

Hi Shelley,
Thank you for your response, it was so comforting reading your message that I read it twice. No I do not suffer any thyroid conditions although my mother had Graves Disease and continues to have ongoing issues. I admit my diet is not up to scratch as I comfort eat, I'm guessing that is linked with the depression. I will definitely look into Dr Kim's thread. Thank you for making me feel like I am not alone. You have no idea how much your response means to me.
Thank you

We are pleased to see you here, thank you for posting. As you can tell from the tone of Shell’s greeting there is no need to worry about kindness, all we would like to do is help.
Having two people that love you is gold. If they are different from you it can be frustrating, but in the end it is their desire for your happiness that wins, not the differences.
As I’m not a medical professional I have no idea if anything related to Grave’s Disease is present and influencing you. I do know that the symptoms of that disease can be agitation, anxiety and depression.
If you put pressure on your loved ones that’s called ‘getting support’, a most necessary factor needed in your life.Perhaps talking to your Mother mightn't be such a bad idea - you would if it was a physical injury like a broken leg, why is a mental illness different?.
Although you have said you sought help and ‘spent thousands’ I’m not sure if you meant in relation to hormonal problems, or anxiety and depression.
As you will be aware there are treatments for these two illnesses: GP, psychologist, meds, therapy, lifestyle, self help and support.
Perhaps you might like to say more about the treatments you are undergoing, or have undergone.
Pardon me if I suggest things you have already done, however looking at The Facts menu towards the top of this page gives information about Anxiety and Depression, their causes, symptoms and treatments, including self-help such as Mindfulness.
Similarly browsing this Forum in the Anxiety and Depression sections has many people and tips about handling these conditions.
As Shelly already suggested perhaps leaving a more detailed message in Dr Kim’s thread might be worth doing.
In any event please post back – as often as you’d like, you will be sure of a gentle warm reception.
My best wishes
