Feeling down + anxious lately

Hi

My first post here so kinda nervous. I have been feeling really down and anxious lately. I also noticed that I have been socially isolating myself for a while now. Its been affecting my studies as I cant concentrate much anymore.I feel tired all the time, and have no motivation to do anything. I'm not getting enough sleep as anxiety keeps me up till late, and I have to wakeup early in the mornings. I'm an introvert, and i also have social anxiety, which has prevented me from making close friends at university, all the friendships i've made here are very superficial, therefore im not comfortable talking to someone about my mental health. Most of the time I just feel like nobody cares.

Im doing a psychiatry module at medical school right now, and its really hard for me as everything I learn makes me feel like its talking about me. And as someone who witnessed Domestic violence as a kid, it makes me really uncomfortable (get chills, cant focus) in the classes if DV is being talked about.

I've tried doing some CBT worksheets from online, but I cant keep on track as I have zero motivation on most days, and exhausted at the end of the day. I have also been meditating lately, it helps a little on anxiety, but not my mood.

I just wanted to vent a bit here as I am really overwhelmed by my emotions.

Hi, welcome

Well, you seem to be doing everything right. As an introvert it is easier for uni mates to gather together as extroverts than, in their eyes, make greater effort with those that find it hard to mix.

One problem I've identified with relatives studying is lack of an interest like sports, hobbies etc. It is really satisfying to look forward to one evening a week with say, volleyball or table tennis. Studying every night can become mundane.

I'll attach a link to a thread I wrote a few years ago that explained how I overcame anxiety. It takes longer than we think and is more serious than we realise.

Good luck and repost anytime. No need to be nervous here.

Hey spaceyogurt

Welcome, I love your profile name!

I'm sorry to hear you've been feeling really down for a while now and that nobody seems to care. I hope you can feel a little less alone here. I've found these forums to be a really kind place.

I can understand what you mean when you say you often just feel exhausted at the end of the day, and you just really wanted to vent a bit here. Sometimes, when we don't have many people to talk to in person, it can really help just having a place to put those thoughts down that have been weighing you down during the day.

Let us know how you are going when you feel up to it. We're here for you.

James
