Am I "depressed" or just damn lazy?

Gday everyone,

My names Michael and I'm 36 years old. I thought id try and be proactive and do something about my extreme laziness and find out more about it, and rule in, or out depression/anxiety.

Just thought id come in here and say hello. I will update this thread with more about myself and to see if anyone else feels the same as I do.

Todays update: Sunday 29th January; Home alone for the weekend while the partner and kids are away, plan to do a bit of housework and I slept in till 3pm... Feeling extremely guilty and just feel like sleep allows me to escape reality. Wake up... Roll over and snooze... Only reason I'm up is that I promised to have a few things done. (We have a very old house in need of repair and I'm meant to be painting my daughters bedroom)

I feel like when I explain my situation I'm just being a big baby and should just harden up. Unsure if I'm depressed or just plan lazy. OK, i better run, gotta get some painting done.

Any questions welcome and I will be back to update more about myself.

Hi YogiBear1980,

Firstly, welcome to the forums. I think keep updating as you go will be great, lets people get a read of where you are at and may assist in further advice.

It's so hard to diagnose anyone on here as most of us are just everyday people who suffer from a mental illness who want to help others coping with it... my first question would be have you gone to speak to your GP about this and get a possible referral to a psychologist? They really are great at getting through to you and can help in many ways, my psych helped me immensely with my anxiety so I can only say good things about them.

My best for you,

Jay

hi YogiBear, looking forward to read youur update, because at the moment it's never easy for us to determine whether or not you are suffering from depression, only a doctor can do this, however there are a couple of remarks you have made that interest me, but it would be good to know what else you do during the day, whether you work and if so, how do you feel and your r/ship with your partner and kids, or are you able to go out with your mates, so if you could tell us a little bit more. Geoff.

Hey Michael

Pretty impossible question. Have you done the depression screeing tools on this website? Start with that. What's your BMI? Always pays to get a GP checkup to rule out medical issues. You mention escaping reality. Question is why? Relationship stress? Are you getyting what you want out of it? How are the kids going? Work stress? Money stress? Enough sleep? Eating well? Enough sex? Exercise? Like Geoff said, are you catching up with mates? The list goes on.
