A song to express your feelings

At this hour, I find myself particularly vulnerable because I am heavily sleep deprived, and my brain can't really process. I have been awake for 21 hours and 12 minutes straight after a string of nights of only a few hours' sleep. I don't feel well, nor do I feel sleepy. So, I am listening to the soundtrack of my life entitled "Walkabouts" and right now, the perfect song to describe what I am feeling (at least the chorus of it) is Madness by Muse. Has anyone ever felt like they could communicate more if they did it through the songs that already exist? I challenge us to have a conversation consisting of song quotes.

So, dedicated to my depression; here I go...

Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I, I can't get these memories ooout of my mind, and some kind of maaaadness has started to evolve. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad... And I, I tried so hard to let you go-ooo, but some kind of maaaadness is swallowing me whole, yeah....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I have finally seen the light. And I have finally realized, what you mean....

Ooh oh oh

[MODERATOR'S NOTE: Hi everyone, just a reminder that song lyrics are copyrighted material, and we (as in BB) can get into trouble for reproducing them without permission.  If you could just keep to sharing song titles, or one or two lines from the song at most, rather than whole lyrics that would be great - that way we can keep this thread open. ]

"Blowing in the Wind" by Bob Dylan is another, though it is direct,  while it poses questions it does not provide answers.

Maybe "We gotta Get Out Of This Place" (Animals) might be better

Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles

My favourite version of this is a live version from 2004. If you want to see it on YouTube it is entitled: "The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star: The Prince's Trust: Produced by Trevor Horn, 2004".

This was one of my 3 favourite songs at the age of 5. I feel it's good that I feel like listening to it as it is connected with happy memories and looking back I can see how helpful songs were for me as a kid. There is something joyful about this song. I particularly like this live performance and there is such beautiful piano and orchestral playing at the end.

one song I really like is "Love Is All"

...from concept album The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. A here is a fun fact for you ... by Ronnie James Dio, it also had many other rock performers at the time (Deep Purple members, JP etc.) on the album. Would hear it just before the news on the ABC back in the day.

Boots Randolph plays "Yakety Sax"(1963)

An amazing virtuoso on the saxophone.  It's also known by some as the chase scene music at the end of a rather ho=um comedy series.

Another one from Ghost... this one is the Excelsis.

It is a song about saying goodbye and associated sadness  but also talks about healing, acceptance, and love. I could speculate more, but likely wrong.

Smallwolf, I listened to Excelcis the other day and I liked it. I just listened again and it helped me as I’ve had severe depression today. Their songs do seem to have a lot of helpful themes of healing, acceptance and love as you say, and I needed that right now.

Croix, I just listened to Yakety Sax and realised I’ve heard it before. It’s a lot of fun and I’m sure it’s not easy to play. After about a minute in it sounds like he is briefly imitating chicken noises 😂 Sorry, I seem to have a one track mind about chickens 🐔

I don’t have any song offerings so will gladly take Excelsius and Yakety Sax as my musical medicine this evening 🙏

I'll be there  - The Four Tops

While the actual lyrics address a girl I think it would be just as applicable to anyone.

(No chicken noises - I promise:)

I love that song Grandy 🎶💖 It’s so beautiful both musically and lyrically.

For me tonight it is The Promise by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band - specifically the Live in New York City version with him at the piano.

This rendition in particular captures my current very depressed state, sense of hopelessness and pointlessness. But it sometimes helps to hear something that expresses how you feel.
