How can we improve the forums? Your suggestions and comments please

Hi all, this thread is a running commentary for all members on things for improvements to the forums. This can be anything from how it looks, the categories, to moderation, community rules etc.

While we might not be able to implement everything straightaway, or keep everyone happy all of the time, we'd like to hear about what you think we can do better.

To avoid repeating suggestions already received, below are some results from our last user survey giving an indication of which new features people would like to see on the forums. This survey was answered by 1,597 users:

44% - Email notification when I have a reply on the forum
39% - Access to the forums via an app
27% - Ability to block seeing posts by specific users
25% - Ability to contact users privately
25% - Ability to use emoticons
25% - Ability to follow posts by specific users
24% - Ability to share links
23% - Forum posts visible only to registered users
22% - A profile, viewable by others users, where I can introduce myself
21% - Ability to quickly access all posts by a particular user
15% - Ability to tag users in a conversation
10% - Ability to share images
6% - Ability to share videos
17% - None of these

Your suggestion of my perhaps "writing a post that IS on topic, then ending with a question that is also ON topic," may be a subtle way of pointing it out...

I'd love to see a thread tiltled "A DAILY DOSE OF HAPPY" that someone can download a photo image they took of something that has made them smile that day with a caption attached. No photos of any humans allowed however.

You can find all the threads you have started, or posted in, by using the My Threads tab.  This is accessible from the front page of the forums, at www.beyondblue.org.au/forums

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your input

Beyond Blue have been doing everything they can with their budgetary constraints. You are spot on as the Beyond Blue forums and phones dont really work well together....at this time..

I understand where you are coming from as I also have the same difficulty engaging the forums on my phone!

Can I ask if you have access to a PC that you can sign on with? We welcome new members and would appreciate your future input 🙂

This website is difficult to navigate. Can't find a section to write my introduction.

I agree. It took me a while to work out how to navigate.

I might suggest that the three tabs that are on the front "forums" page should be available even when in a thread or section of the forums so that an obvious navigation route is right there at the top.

I am an old hand at forums, being old and all, but still this site lacks some intuitive, user friendliness I might expect these days
