Hi all
I have gone back on ADs and these with therapy have helped a lot although i haven't seen my therapist for a few weeks as she is away.
I can't seem to stop worrying about my financial state, i am 51 haven't been able to keep my last three jobs due to my mental state (can't perform simple tasks) and have been unemployed for over three years and not sure that anyone will ever hire me again. I don't have any super and i have a small debt. I am worried how i will end up in fact i am worried i will end up living in my car.....then what? So scared of the future. I don't mind living a simple life but i still need money.
Any suggestions please? so worried how i will end up. How do people do it please. I am sharing with four others and i dont want to end up in a rooming house. How can i get ahead without a job. Can't stop thinking about all this. What happens to people like me, broke, mentally ill, how can i help myself. Desperate for suggestions please.
Thanks for listening.
Thank you for listening.

Hi Surrender, welcome to beyond blue forums
It's a tough question to answer. Over recent years life financially in your situation has become harder. Many people in the past have ended up in a caravan park with their own van. This is still ok but I believe you need to move on every 6 weeks or so. If this is an option then call in at caravan parks to get a run down on this possibility. This would give you a different lifestyle. You might consider buying a cheap van that your car could tow. Then in the future once work is secured you could tow it to a holiday destination cheaply.
For now, your focus should be any work that could "supplement" your benefits. This will give you a good start. Any work that is part time/casual. I've known people that get a good reputation in one casual job then get another from that reputation etc and the snowball begins. It isnt unusual to have 3-4 casual jobs now a days.
Some other ideas- security work. You might get Centrelink assistance to get your security license. If so do it. It isnt like the old days when you needed to be 4 feet wide and brutal. In fact fragile females are in demand and men. Security firms are always looking for new employees as some experienced staff are hard to handle as they always think there is a better way of doing things. Casual security work is good as when workers take a sick day the firm will ring you to take their place. Since 9/11 security has been in demand. It could lead to customs work for example.
Macca's etc are always looking for staff. They dont discriminate.
Finally, never give up. Your attitude is everything.
Good luck. Tony WK

Hi surrender;
I can imagine you would be feeling very anxious over the future and what may happen. I think it's great that you are being proactive and planning ahead rather than ignoring the situation and hoping things will work themselves out.
I'm not sure what state you reside but in NSW organizations such as Vinnies can help with some financial issues such as bills and groceries if you are receiving Centrelink benefits. Perhaps if you can get your small debt knocked over it will help lessen the burden. As for employment there are employment agencies that will be more than happy to help find you casual work. Perhaps hook up with one and also talk to Centrelink as they also can point you in the right direction as to services that can help you.
if you have regular access to a computer and Internet there is also employment options online such as mystery shopping. I have done mystery shopping in past; If you Google them you can apply online. Jobs often only pay $20-50 but depending on your area you may get alot of work.
I hope things work out well for you and please make sure you meet up with your counsellor when she returns from holidays; goos on you for reaching out and asking for help. 🙂

Hi.
I am sorry you are having a difficult time. I have had difficulties keeping work due to anxiety and depression so you aren't alone.
Have you spoken with Centrelink regarding your health? Sometimes there are benefits for people who are unable to work due to sickness or health so I would recommend that.
I would also recommend temping, for when you are ready, just depends on what work you do. With temping there are short term assignments anywhere from a week to a month and you can choose which assignments you like. I have found this has helped me during my recovery process as I don't feel I'm locked in.
I hope things improve for you.
