University Stress

Hello to whoever is reading this,

I'm studying at university, doing a Bachelor of Science. I have a report due and currently freaking out about it. This report has been hanging over my head and making me feel horrible knowing its due. The report is due soon and I've barley been making any progress on it. I've been having a lot of panic attacks due to this and a couple of mental breakdowns.

I'm just wondering what some strategies are I could use to help me feel better mentally.

Kind regards,

Emily

Hi Emily

I’m really sorry that you are struggling to finish your report. I know you’re feeling frustrated and stressed but try to breathe and think your way through this.

Short-term, you if you think you can finish it with a bit more time you may want to consider reaching out to your tutor/professor via email and asking for an extension on compassionate grounds. I would be honest and tell them you’re experiencing a mental health issue.
If you get one, work backwards from the new due date and plan to get as much done as possible within strict timeframes. It doesn’t have to be perfect, good enough is good enough to pass.

Chunk it down into small manageable parts, so it’s not so overwhelming. Do what you can in a reasonable time. Then move on to the next chunk. Remember, you are not aiming for a “Rolls Royce”, a “Kia” will do. It is always better to submit something rather than nothing.

Medium-term, if that sounds too stressful call student services at your university and see what formal process exists in special circumstances for extensions or even course withdrawal and see your GP for a medical certificate.

Long-term, think about how you got in this situation. Mental health issues? Procrastination? Juggling too many balls? Then work this problem by examining what you’ve learned and seeking any future support you may need.

Please remember, even if you don’t get this one in on time it’s okay. There will be a way to remedy that, but just move through this one step at a time.

Kind thoughts to you

Hi Emily,

I think I can understand you, I'd feel the same way.

First of all ask yourself why it's delayed. Is it because the report is too challenging for you, or there're other things distracting you. If it's too challenging, do not hesitate to seek help from your teacher, otherwise, do everything you can to keep yourself focused.

You can also ask for an extension, but remember, even if an extension is grant, don't get distracted, don't schedule other things until the report is done.

Good luck!

Hey Emily.

I remember uni stress. I bet the lecturer has said that us the most important thing ever right?

In a sense they'd be right because you obviously don't wanna do the subject again, don't wanna have to waste time again etc.

But also, in another sense I think that the uni stress you're going through is totally normal. I remember doing assignments right at the last minute and then doing okay in it and wondering why I wasn't getting a better result. Silly me hey?

In the end the goal is complete the degree. Keep that perspective and see what you're doing now as a small step on that road.

My best

And all the best with the study
