physical pain caused by anxiety

hey everyone, so i've had anxiety, OCD and depression for about 5 years and its been getting very bad recently. I'm so restless all the time; I can't stop moving (ie. tapping my legs, cracking knuckles continuously) and I have a really painful wrenching feeling in my chest. I wake up with this feeling- being so exhausted and in physical pain as soon as I awake in the morning makes me want to just burst into tears, as pathetic as that may sound. The agitation caused by my anxiety feels like something inside me that I can't get out, it makes me so uncomfortable and like I need to scratch my skin off or scream or jump off something, just to make something happen, so I can feel something. It's so uncomfortable to sit through and just makes all the mental/emotional aspects so much more difficult to deal with. Any tips would be greatly appreciated x

Hello Mayab

Thankyou for being a part of the forum family. It takes courage to post a thread topic and good on you!

I understand you as I used to have anxiety for many years and it can be an awful place to be in. Anxiety can cause various symptoms including what you have mentioned. In the early years with my anxiety I had to go to the toilet....many times...and sometimes in a hurry...as well as the inability to stay still as well

So we can provide more effective support....can I ask if you have been diagnosed with anxiety and if you are seeing a GP and/or a counselor? Frequent appointments with a doc are crucial so we can find some peace in our lives.

The forums are a safe and non judgemental place for you to post. I really hope you can stick around with us 🙂

Any questions/comments are welcome Mayab 🙂 You are not alone

My kind thoughts for you

Paul

Hi Mayab and thankyou for posting back too!

If we didnt have new members then the forums would cease to exist. Your input is more than welcome 🙂

Good on you for being so proactive with your health. Some people choose not to see a counselor and their symptoms can become worse. I was only asking to see if you have a GP that you can lean on as they have better training nowadays that even 10 years ago.

I have been on antidepressants for approx 22 years now....which kept me at work and improved my life a great deal. I have been seeing my GP for a 'tune up' every month for about 10 years and always feel better afterwards

Having a really good cry with a GP/Counselor can be such a cleanser when we have these built up feelings that cause a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. A good GP that has a focus on mental health can be a godsend

we are happy to be here for you Mayab. Any questions or comments are more than welcome 🙂

my kind thoughts

Paul

I hear you:( it still happens to me since I was in my early teens I used to have literally a list of physical symptoms related to stress and anxiety like shortness of breath heart palpitations I literally thought I was going to die:( but the hospital said it’s just a bad panic attack caused by anxiety then that went away and now I’ve got a very nervous stomach and have to go “toilet” many times throughout the day because I’m stressed even the smallest thing can trigger it and it does scare me sometimes how my mind can do this to my body physically but it does help talking to maybe your parents or a psychologist whatever feels comfortable to you:) I can’t say I’ve healed completely but compared to before I am doing a lot better.

Hi Maya,

Welcome to the forums and as Paul alluded to earlier, it takes so much courage, strength and bravery to post and you should be extremely proud of yourself. Hats off to you!

Paul has made some great points above.

I experienced health anxiety for a few years and consistently felt sharp, whole body pains until I saw a psychiatrist who prescribed me medication and started to address the underlying issues I was having (weight and self-esteem/image problems). I guess something you can look into is addressing underlying issues, if any, that are causing you to feel the way you are feeling?

It is also really important that if you are not feeling better even with the medication, tell your health professionals that the medicine isn't working and ask what other medication is available. Are you familiar with the saying "Not one glove fits all?" This is very true when it comes to medication.

Like Paul mentioned above, it is super important that you try and see a health professional regularly and this should improve your situation. Staying on top of things and seeing your doctors/psychologists regularly would be of great benefit to you. Maybe consider seeing your GP and asking for a mental health plan and scheduling an appointment with your psychologist and then sort out a regular schedule that suits your availability?

I can tell that your experience has built up extreme resilience and we are here for you!

Stay strong and positive. It will get better.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

All the best,

Nick.

Hi, I get chest pain from not breathing properly. As soon as I feel the pain I start to have a panic attack. My mind goes crazy and I shake and flush. Any tips please?
