Needing an ear.

I'm new to this and not sure if i'm even posting in the right forum.
I'm not one to talk about mental health. I find it difficult to speak to others about it and will often bottle things up.
I'm really struggling tonight after receiving an email about my studies.
Long story short, I feel like i'm not being supported by my work to grow and typing this makes me feel silly to say out loud but I just feel like I can't win.
My friends are trying to encourage me that I can get past this but I honestly feel like I can't.
Am I overreacting?
I just feel broken and can't stop crying.

Hi Monty89, welcome to the forums!

It takes a lot of strength to reach out when you need help and you have done that here today and I am very porud of you and you should be very proud of youself. There are a lot of amazing people on these forums who can help you.

I definately implore you to call BeyondBlue on 1300 224 636 at any time if you are ever really struggling. They are 24/7 and can help.

I think worrying about work and not feeling supported is completely normal and nothing to be ashamed about. I think the COVID situation definately hasn't helped anyone feel less anxious about their career path. Do you have any close friends or are you close with your boss that you could talk to about this? If it is a serious issue, perhaps some government agencies could help you too.

Do you have a therapist or would you consider getting one? It definately sounds like you could use someone more well trained to talk to who can give you specific advice on your situation without typing too much out on the internet.

It is hard for me to comment on your exact situation, but I just want to say that no matter what, you are not alone in feeling overwhelmed by life. Life can be scary sometimes, I get that, but tomorrow is a new day, and you never know what could be around the corner for you. You are not alone, and all of us on the forums are rooting for you. We are always here if you need an ear or to give advice when you need it. You are so valued in this world and you truly have a place, even if sometimes you don't see it.

Be sure to check in with us and keep us updated on what is going on, I'm sure we would all love to hear from you.

You can get through this, I promise.

Thank you for your kind words.
I do have friends I can talk to etc but when I do, I feel like they don't understand why i'm so upset by it all.

Hey Monty,

It sucks when we feel a certain way and it those around us can't relate or empathise. I hope you find a valuable support network on these forums though 🙂

If you feel comfortable, you can share your feelings- and the situation- here (again, only if you are comfortable doing so!). I usually check the forums daily, and will try to reply 🙂

Aphador 🙂

Hi, I am so glad to hear from you again!

See, you made it through another day! You are stronger than you could ever believe. I am proud of you.

A lot of the time our anxiety makes us feel alone and like noone understands. I have been dealing with extremely toxic housemates for 2 years now, and all of my family and friends in my home state just don't understand and that has been really rough. However, I have 1 member of family down here who has met them and agrees with me to vent to, and plus all of my online friends who, despite never meeting them, hear everything and trust me. It really can feel like noone understands but here is the thing. Just because they don't UNDERSTAND exactly what is going on, it doesn't mean that they do not CARE. Those two are not mutually exclusive, and I feel like our anxiety tells us it is that way a lot of the time.

They may not understand, however if you express to them that you just need support and someone to lean on, they will listen to you I promise. It is what friends are for, they care about you. They would never want you to feel alone or unsupported, I promise.

I still strongly recommend a therapist for you, or even just to go to a GP and do a mental health plan and see what they recommend from there. I think it would really help you in the "understanding" department.

Remember that we are always here when you need us and at no time are you ever truly alone. I think even just a discussion with your friends like "hey, I know you maybe don't understand exactly whats happening, but I just need your support", you will be surprised at how willing they will be.

Always rooting for you, keep us updated if you feel comfortable doing so!
