Imposter syndrome at work?

Hi everyone.

I have a job in social media where getting likes/views/subscribers etc is important.

i don't have the best self esteem to begin with, and I absolutely love my job and wouldn't change it for anything in the world... But I can't stop comparing myself to everyone.

If I get low views I equate it to my self worth and feel like I'm not good enough.

Any advice?

Hi Lunaria, welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry to hear about how you're feeling at the moment. I personally have stopped using social media based on how I kept comparing myself to everyone - obviously that's not an option for you and if you love it, it's definitely not something you should stop.

I have a postgraduate degree in marketing and while working in marketing isn't for me, I have found that it can be super hit or miss. You look at some really successful social media accounts and you'll see they get a crazy amount of likes and views on one post but then very little engagement on the next. From my understanding that's just the name of the game.

What this shouldn't do though is effect your self worth. Your value is far greater than how many likes or subscribers you gain for your works social media accounts. You sound like an incredibly passionate person and probably creative too if you're in social media. I think if this problem is becoming a bit too much for you then talking to someone like your GP might be your next best step.
