Hey Moses,
Welcome to the forums and thank you so much for posting. It is great to have you here!
Rational statements/thinking refers to thinking logically and having reasonable thoughts and emotions. I suffered from anxiety and rational statement/thinking wasn't a strategy I personally used, however, I work in mental health and have heard from many people that rational statement/thinking can be successful in combination with therapy and/or medication.
When someone is anxious or are suffering from a mental health condition, your thoughts and way of thinking is negatively skewed. Rational thinking attempts to put a stop to the thoughts that lead to anxiety, and to replace those thoughts with realistic, rational thoughts. When these rational self-statements are practiced and learned, your brain takes over and they automatically occur.
In short, it can work and be successful on its own but it should probably be considered as a treatment/coping method in combination with consistent therapy session and medication.
Hope this helps.
Nick.
