Hi,

I am new to beyondblue. I feel like i cant talk to anyone about how im feeling. I have no idea why i am feeling the way im feeling. I will be starting to see a councillor thursday but never seen one before and no idea what im ment to say. I am sitting on my couch having a panic attack for no reason at all. I just need ways to help me manage my anxiety. I cant sleep because of it. Im exhausted but i dont know how to turn my brain off or get rid of this feeling in my stomach. I have a 5 year old son and a single mother and this is making it hard for me to do things with him. Its making it hard for me to be the best mum for him and i feel so guilty. Ive tried so many things ive found online to help anxiety but nothing seems to work. Please if anyone has any idea that has helped them out i would love to hear about them.

Hi there

Not too long til Thursday and I’m sure the therapist will help you to share your feelings. You could always show them your post, or write out how you’re feeling. Well done taking the step to see someone - help is in the way!

Until then can you try slow breathing, focusing on your breath to calm down? Or listening to guided meditations on YouTube to drift off to sleep?

Let us know how you’re going - others will answer with more ideas I’m sure.

Hi I am awkward

Welcome and good on you for having the courage to post too 🙂

Annie_1 has mentioned noteworthy caring suggestions above in her post

I also understand what you are going through as I have had anxiety issues for a while now even though I am in recovery...Anxiety of any level is an awful place to be in

Having a support network.....even 1 or 2 people can be a huge help....just to have someone that you can lean on

You are proactive with your health with having a counselor booked for next Thursday....Excellent!

Can I ask if you have a GP that you can talk to? I still see my GP for my anxiety every 4 weeks for a tune up as he listens and understands anxiety. I always feel so much better after my monthly appointment

I hope you can post back (only if you wish of course) and let us know what you think 🙂

you are not alone

my kind thoughts

hello. We are all like minded and suffer the same here. Have you looked at the self help tips at the start of this forum. They work. It is a long and tough journey getting it under control. But its important you understand the medical aspects of why you are feeling like this. There are flight or fight chemicals releasing in your brain. They are affecting your moods and creating all the noise in your head. Exercise helps get rid of those chemicals. The rest is a lot of personal training getting yourself in the present moment and ignoring all the fears in your head.

Hi,

When talking to a counsellor you just tell them exactly how you are feeling. Just as you wrote it here.

I'd like to recommend a book to you. The author Bev Aisbett has written many books on anxiety. Don't worry they are not lengthy tomes. They are short easy illustrated books. The book to start with is called 'Living with IT', it being anxiety.

Also what others have said about managing your breathing etc. Sounds so simple but it helps. Don't isolate yourself. Reach out here anytime. You are not alone.

Thanks Books1066 i will definitely have a look at that book and thank you for yhe advice about the councillor.

Hi blondguy My gp does seem to want help she referred me to the councillor and that was the end of it. so on the hunt for a new one i think. I dont really have a support network. I live away from my family and have no friends. Because of this i cant get out and meet people. But reading on here and knowing im not alone and i can come on here and talk to people who have or are going through the same as me has helped already.
