Hi everyone,

i am having a bad bout of anxiety and depression which has lingered for at least 12 months. Is there any hope of a full recovery? I get counselling, go to a GP, am receiving medication, exercise... do all the right things and yet I have a constant knot in my stomach or a tight chest. I just want to know if any of you have actually ever recovered or is this the best I'm going to be. Right now I feel like there is no end to this awful feeling.

Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with anxiety and depression. Good to hear that you are working with professionals to improve the situation. Have you seen your GP for regular updates? If not, I would suggest that you book an appointment and discuss your constant knot in stomach and tight chest. You may need to have your medication adjusted. How often do you go counselling? You may also benefit from more frequent sessions.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it😊🙏I am going to counselling a little infrequently at the moment due to time constraints but am going again next week. The doctor upped my medication on Friday but I am not sure when I should see an improvement. I have made an appointment with the doctor for this afternoon. Do you know anyone who has fully recovered from this illness because I just need some hope that someone out there actually gets to the other side rather than just learning to live with it. I am on long service leave at the moment but don't want to return to my job. I think it is the illness talking to me but I am not sure if I just don't like my job anymore.

Good to hear that you are working with your counsellor and doctor. It will take some time for the medication to kick in, so be patient and wait. I may not be the best example here but hope my experience will cheer you up. I am not diagnosed with an anxiety disorder by professionals, but I get anxious very easily. I had an episode of bad anxiety caused by study stress, which I found it difficult to swallow any food at dinner time. I thought it would be over after exams, but it still lingered afterwards. Everyone around me was concerned and scared. I went to a psychologist who asked me to enjoy a holiday without worrying about studies. I did not quite believe in her at first, but took her advice anyway. After the holiday, I was completely back to normal! Maybe it will help to forget about work and take a good break.

There are definitely many people out there who fully recovered from anxiety and depression. Let's hope that some of them will share their experiences here.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me- it made a big difference to my day❤️
