this is my first post, really nervous!! my story..

i work full time & go to uni (just dropped to part time) i enjoy travelling & just got back from a holiday the other day. When getting home i clearly had a bit of jet lag ect went to bed everything was normal until the next day, i woke up had breakfast with friends than went home & got ready to go out to uni. when driving out to the university i started questioning everything nothing seemed normal than next minute i felt a dry mouth feeling could feel my heart beat starting to race and i just felt an overwhelming scared feeling. the next thing i knew i was in hospital with a heart beat of 160bpm and rising. i went for several tests & everything came back negative & have put it down to anxiety..

for 4 days now i have been in my room, not wanting to drive anywhere just crying & questioning everything i have also been calling into work sick because i am scared to drive . i don't understand it & that is what scares me the most. before this i was a very outgoing, social & confident person now nothing. i am scared & do not know what to do!! please help me and share your stories. will i get back to the person i was before this?

Hi Budenva,

Thanks for sharing your story with us and welcome to the community here at Beyond Blue. If you have a look in the anxiety section, you will find plenty of people suffer from the same as you, if not something very similar.

I would also like to recommend that you have a read of the ANXIETY information at the bottom of this page. You may find it very beneficial. You can also use the phone help line and the Chat Online service.

Recently I had an operation. I had some kind of reaction while in recovery and had a major panic attack. I ended up having three more while in hospital. I have only ever experienced them very mildly in the past.

The Dr. kept me in for an extra day then aske4d if I wanted to stay in longer. I told him no, I would go home. If the same thing happened again and it was severe I would go to the hospital. It did not happen again.

I can understand your concern and fear. I would suggest that you ask a friend to go for a drive with you to see how you cope. I might be advisable to go for a bit of a walk first, so if you are stressed you will feel a little calmer.

Play some of your favourite music in the car or ask your friend to sing to you or tell you jokes or something to lighten the mood.

I would also like to suggest that you go and have a chat with your Dr and see what they have to say. They will listen and be able to explain to you what happened.

Quite often when I return from a holiday I find it difficult for a week or so to get back into the usual rhythm of life. Holidays can be so different from every day life. Not only may you have had jet lag, you also might have had the post holiday blues.

First things first, you need to get out of your room. Phone a friend and go out somewhere. Phone your Dr for an appointment and try a short drive somewhere.

Hope some of this helps!

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools
