Hair giving me anxiety

Hey all, I've been struggling with body dysmorphia with my hair for a long time. Lately, I get really anxious if my hair doesn't look perfect in the mirror and I keep combing it multiple times until it looks perfect and see check how it looks in the mirror multiple times before I leave the house.

I comb my hair to look a certain way and sometimes the wind blows it out of place when I'm outside and it falls down and I get a sudden urge to look in the mirror. When i see its out of place and not the way I combed it, I get really bad anxiety.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello Dear Chad199992,

Welcome to our forums…

I can relate to how your feeling anxiety with your hair…I have very frizzy hair and have been teased, bullied and made fun of, for most of my school years and even beyond that….I let my hair grow long so I can put in up into a bun, to stay tidy…..I’m not sure if you’re male or female….but if your male, I think the best thing would be to use some hair gel, hair mousse or hairspray to keep your hair in check…..that’s what my sons do, they like their hair to be neat and tidy…but nature has a way of not letting that happen most days…..

Have you ever tried hair gel, mousse or hairspray to keep the style you like to wear….unfortunately hair blows with the slightest breeze…and might need some styling products to keep your hair from moving around with the breeze..

My kindest thoughts and care,

Grandy..

Hi Chad199992,

I can tell it must be very frustrating.

Caring about our appearance is absolutely normal, everyone does. Everyone wants to look better and be more confident.

I believe there're different solutions out there for you, maybe you can try talking to your barber/stylist about what works best for you and easier for you to maintain? I also suggest you to ask your close friends, maybe sometimes you look really fine but you worry too much.

Hi there,

I am sorry you have been experiencing this, it must be very hard for you. Have you spoken to your doctor or mental health professional about this? It might be worth even talking about it with someone to figure out what is going on! Our society is so obsessed with how we look, it's hard.

I hope things improve,

Jaz xx
