Feeling guilty after I eat food

Hello there,

PsychedelicFur here! Now, after I eat food -particularly junk food I make myself feel so guilty. Does anyone else feel this way?

I think mainly the problem why I encounter such a significant amount of guilt is maybe because my mother would say “oh if you eat anymore of that you will end up the size of a house!” Or “Do you wanna look like an Oompa Lompa?!”

So I am just wondering if anyone else deals with a similar issue? And if so, how have you tried to overcome the issue or what things do you suggest?

Food and I have been a bit of battle for many years, if I can be quite honest with you!

I would eat some junk food and then exercise excessively because I was concerned with what my mother would tell me.

PF.

Hi PsychedelicFur,

I understand how it feels exactly. Food and I don't get along like we use to. If I ate a burger for example I would feel so bad after. The mother situation I have been there and it makes you feel worse. What you have to keep in mind is that, that's your mothers opinion. No matter what people tell you on how to go about this is doesn't change your feelings as they're still valid to you. Your not alone in this xoxo

Hi PsychedelicFur,

While I did not get as much nagging from my mom about my eating habits, as compared to my sister whom my mom has a very high expectation of her in terms of body image, it's still something that sticks to us and has an impact to the way we feel about ourselves. It is as what purple_butterfly said, our mother's expectations are what they want us to be, and it is unrealistic to be meeting their expectations as we'll just be fooling our own feelings.

Also, exercising is great. I found myself having less guilt over the things I eat because I know I'll have my exercise session to balance out what I gained. I also don't have to exercise to the same amount of what I eat, rather a little bit or just to my limit, is better than none. Of course, I remind myself that moderation is key, and that applies to both exercising and eating. Excessive eating leads to additional weight gain, while excessive exercising can lead to higher chance of injuring ourselves and longer recovery times. This is why there are rest days in between our exercise schedules to make sure our body has enough time to recover.

Hope that helps!
